Mon, Jan 23 2006

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks today announced that year end passenger boardings at the Greater Rochester International Airport (GRIA) reached an all-time high in 2005. Year end enplanements for 2005 totaled 1,457,573 passengers, a 6% increase over 2004 and a 17% increase over 2003.
“Once again, the Greater Rochester International Airport has experienced record growth, with 2005 year end enplanements surpassing the previous high set in 2004,” said Brooks. “The improvements we have made over the last couple years have transformed the Airport into a truly modern, state-of-the-art facility. This year, we will begin phase two of the terminal renovation project, so there will be more improvements to come, including upgrades to the baggage system.”
The total number of passengers (arriving and departing) using GRIA in 2005 was 2,917,256, an increase of 6% over 2004.
“The Airport is well positioned for future growth. We will continue to focus on improving services and options for both business and leisure travelers,”
Brooks added. Brooks also stressed the Airport’s impact on the economy. The Airport is responsible for 8,000 jobs and generates close to $500 million annually for the local economy.
