Brooks Announces Projects Approved By COMIDA

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency (COMIDA) approved incentives for nine local economic development projects.
“Our top priority is creating jobs,” said Brooks. “The assistance provided through COMIDA has been instrumental in helping local companies, from manufacturing to biotechnology, improve and expand their operations and create new job opportunities for the residents of Monroe County.”
The following projects were approved by COMIDA:

The applicant is proposing to renovate the 149-room Courtyard by Marriott located at 33 Corporate Woods. The project includes complete renovation of all public spaces including the lobby and meeting rooms, new soft goods and furniture in the guestrooms, and new carpeting and wall vinyl in the corridors. The total project cost is $1.3 million. The hotel employs 43 full-time. The company is seeking exemption from sales tax only. The project qualifies as a tourist destination.

The applicant has purchased property located at 15 Schoen Place. The long vacant building built in 1880 formerly housed a flour and grain mill. The 14,000 square foot three-story building located on 1.3 acres is being completely renovated at a cost of $1.5 million.
Renovations include a new roof, siding, windows and interior work. Biophan will be leasing two and half floors of the facility and will be locating 19 workers to the facility and creating six new jobs over five years. Biophan develops and markets cutting-edge technologies for the medical device industry. The applicant seeks approval of JobsPlus based on the rehabilitation of a long vacant commercial building.

Biophan will be locating 19 workers to a long vacant building at 15 Schoen Place in Pittsford (Schoen Place, LLC) leasing two and half floors of the facility. The company is currently located at the Lennox Tech Incubator in Henrietta. Biophan will be creating six new jobs over five years. The company seeks approval of EquiPlus for $166,000 on the computers, phone system, copier and furniture and has been approved for a GreatRebate on the purchases through the Monroe County Industrial Development Corporation.

InSciTek has been approved for a GreatRebate through Monroe County Industrial Development Corporation and is seeking approval of EquiPlus.

TTS employs 41 full-time and will be creating four new full-time positions. TTS has been approved for a GreatRate through Monroe County Industrial Development Corporation and is seeking approval of EquiPlus.

AJL employs 174 full-time and will be creating four new full-time positions. AJL has been approved for a GreatRate through Monroe County Industrial Development Corporation and is seeking approval of EquiPlus.

Lunch Byte Systems, Inc. (LBS) is a food service nutrition and management software developer. LBS’s nutrition analysis software is used in over 7,500 school districts across the country. LBS is expanding their lab and testing space and will be purchasing new Dell PC systems, including software and hardware. The combined cost of the equipment is $83,572. LBS employs 45 and will be creating two new full-time positions. LBS has been approved for a GreatRate through Monroe County Industrial Development Corporation and is seeking approval of EquiPlus.
The EquiPlus program combines the investment incentives of the GreatRate and GreatRebate programs with the sales tax exemptions offered through COMIDA. Companies that receive GreatRate or GreatRebate benefits through MCIDC for the purchase of equipment can receive an additional sales tax exemption on the purchase of that equipment through COMIDA.
JobsPlus is a tax abatement program that, in addition to sales tax exemption and/or mortgage tax exemption, provides 90% abatement on increased assessment associated with the project in the first year, decreasing 10% per year for a ten-year period.
COMIDA is a not-for-profit, public benefit corporation and governmental agency. Its purpose is to actively promote, encourage, attract and develop job opportunities in the community, by encouraging established businesses to expand locally and attracting new industries to the Monroe County area. COMIDA incentives apply toward the purchase of land and construction of new facilities, the expansion of existing buildings, the purchase of new machinery and equipment, as well as the renovation of existing facilities.
