Brooks Hosts First Ever College Presidents Summit

Fulfilling a pledge made in her 2006 State of the County Address, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks hosted a College Presidents Summit.
Participants in the Summit included: President Joel Seligman, University of Rochester; President Daan Braveman, Nazareth College; President John Martin, Roberts Wesleyan College; President Albert Simone, RIT; President John Halstead, SUNY Brockport; President Tom Flynn, MCC; President Donald Bain, St. John Fisher College; President Christopher Dahl, SUNY Geneseo and Chairman, Rochester Area Colleges regional consortium; Patty Malgieri, Deputy Mayor, City of Rochester; Wayne Zyra, President, Monroe County Legislature; Lois Geiss, President, City Council; Bill Carpenter, Supervisor, Town of Pittsford and member, Council of Governments; David Bonacchi, Mayor, Village of East Rochester and Chairman, Council of Governments; Matt Hurlbutt, Executive Director, RochesterWorks!; and, Sergio Esteban, President & CEO, LaBella Associates and member, Workforce Investment Board.
At the Summit, Brooks said, “This Summit is a way for us to come together and talk about what government is doing, what our colleges and universities are doing, and how we can work more effectively together to grow our economy.”
Citing the increasing role colleges and universities are playing in the regional economy, Brooks told Summit participants, “More than ever, our colleges and universities need to be involved in setting the vision for our community and region as we move forward. We all agree ‘the glass is half full’ and we need to continue our collaborative efforts toward progress.”
