County Executive Maggie Brooks officially opened the 2006 Holiday Show at Monroe County’s Lamberton Conservatory. This colorful and festive exhibit of natural beauty has become an annual tradition at Highland Park.

“If you’re looking for a way to enjoy the holiday season without all the hustle and bustle associated with this time of year, then this is the perfect event,” said Brooks“This year’s Holiday Show at our historic Lamberton Conservatory is a ‘horticultural spectacular’ that’s sure to please every visitor, regardless of age. I encourage all Monroe County residents to take the time to include this outstanding seasonal exhibit as part of their family’s holiday itinerary.”

The theme of the 2006 Holiday Show is “The Natural Wreath”. Sixteen evergreen wreaths have been especially hand-crafted for the exhibit by the County Parks Department’s horticultural staff, using unique boughs, leaves, cones and berries collected throughout Highland Park.

Once again this year, the focal point of the Holiday Show is an eight-foot high Poinsettia pyramid, which has become an annual favorite among visitors. Also anchoring the exhibit are flocked and decorated fresh evergreen trees.

Traditional holiday plants provide dazzling waves of brilliant colors throughout the exhibit. In all, 450 Poinsettias and 250 Cyclamen are on display.

The Lamberton Conservatory will host the 2006 Holiday Show from December 8, 2006 through January 26, 2007. The Conservatory is located in Monroe County’s Highland Park at 180 Reservoir Avenue and is open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (closed Christmas Day). Admission is $1.00 per person, 50 cents for Seniors (ages 62 and up) and free for supervised children under age 12.

In keeping with the holiday spirit, Brooks also announced today that Monroe County’s Highland Botanical Park has received the prestigious distinction as an “Official Holly Arboretum” by the Holly Society of America. The Highland Holly collection is located just above the southeast corner of the Lilac collection.
