Brooks: Civil Service Exam Results Now Available on County Web Site

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that Monroe County Civil Service exam results will be made available online at monroecounty.gov.
“This is another step forward in our successful efforts to streamline government and improve customer service for County residents,”said Brooks. “Monroe County is now the first county in western New York to make Civil Service exam scores available online and only the second county in the state to make our exam scores available in real-time.”
Brooks noted Monroe County is able to provide this service at no cost to County taxpayers. The service is funded entirely with a grant secured through the New York State Education Department’s Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF). The new online service was implemented by two local companies, PerSoft, Inc. and Upstate Telecommunications Corporation (UTC).
Under the previous system, residents would take the Civil Service exam, receive notice of their score and ranking through the mail, and have to go downtown to view their placement in relation to other candidates on the eligibility list. Under the new system, residents will now be able to view their placement online.
The new service allows test takers to search through about 375 civil service lists and more than 7,000 candidates for their score by simply entering their name into the search tool. The new application is accessible 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
Brooks said the service is also another example of intermunicipal cooperation. “Not only can citizens access their Civil Service exam scores with ease, it is now even easier for our government partners who use the County’s Civil Service Office for hiring qualified candidates,”Brooks added. “These partners can now search by residency, or search any one of the 66 civil service jurisdictions in Monroe County, to preview lists of qualified candidates for a position.”
The County Executive also announced that Monroe County is the only government in New York State to be recognized as a nationwide finalist for the Center for Digital Government’s 2006 Best of the Web Award.
Best of the Web is an annual awards program that recognizes the most innovative, user-friendly state and local government portals. This national awards program judges state, city and county websites on their “innovation, web-delivery of public services, efficiency, economy, and functionality for improved citizen access”.
