Brooks Announces Gradient Lens Corporation is November Business of the Month
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that Gradient Lens Corporation has been named Monroe County’s “Business of the Month” for November and is featured on Monroe County’s website, monroecounty.gov.

Monroe County is proud to be home to the world’s leading optics, photonics and imaging companies. Optics is a vital and growing industry in our region and Gradient Lens Corporation is one of the economic engines powering that growth,” said Brooks. “Gradient Lens reflects the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation that continues to energize our high-tech economy and move our community forward.”

Rochester is the best city in the country to build optical products. The skill set and the know-how are here in Rochester, the suppliers are well established, and the costs are very competitive relative to the rest of the country,” said Douglas Kindred, President, Gradient Lens Corporation. “We have all of our optics, optical coatings, fiber optics and machined metal parts made right here in Western New York due to the terrific quality and value.”

Gradient Lens Corporation, located in Rochester, was founded in 1980 by Dr. Duncan Moore at the University of Rochester. The company currently employs 16 people.

Gradient Lens Corporation’s patented endoGRINS gradient-index lens technology is built into its exclusive line of Hawkeye Precision Borescopes. This unique technology provides a tremendous cost and quality advantage over conventional lenses, making Hawkeye Borescopes the best value in the industry. These products are used for quality control in a variety of industries including aerospace and automotive, and used for applications such as safe cracking, inspection of car and jet engines, and precision shooting.

Brooks added that Gradient Lens has great synergy with companies in the region, using local machining and optical manufacturers as suppliers for the production of their borescopes.

The Hawkeye Precision Borescope has been featured in four episodes of the popular television drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
