Monroe County Announces Free Document Shredding Day

Monroe County Announces Free Document Shredding Day

County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that Monroe County will be partnering with Metro Waste Paper Recovery U.S., Inc. and its subcontractor Nova Records Management for a Community Document Shred Day on Saturday, July 11th, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Monroe County Transfer Station in Rochester. The event is free and open to all Monroe County residents.
“The Community Document Shredding Day provides residents a chance to safely dispose of and recycle any personal and confidential material that could get into the hands of identity thieves,” said Brooks. “These collections also extend the useful life of the County’s landfill.”
Confidential documents placed at the curb for disposal or recycling offer identity thieves an opportunity to strike. Since all documents will be shredded and recycled, this collection offers residents the chance to protect their personal information while doing something positive for the environment.
No appointments are needed for the Community Document Shred Day. Documents should be placed in plastic garbage bags (limit two large bags per person). Business documents will not be accepted.
Metro Waste Paper is the contract operator of the County’s Resource Recovery Facility and Recycling Center. Nova Records offers business records archiving, secure document destruction and data management services.
The Monroe County Transfer Station is located near the corner of Lee Road and Emerson Street in Rochester. Complete details, including a list of what will be accepted at the Shred event can be found on www.MonroeCounty.gov – keyword: Shred Day; or by calling the Department of Environmental Services at 753-7646. Residents who are unable to attend this collection can place their shredded documents in a clear plastic bag in their curbside recycling bins.
