Monroe County to Host Chili-Gates Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that the County’s Department of Environmental Services (DES) has partnered up with the Towns of Chili, Gates, Wheatland, Riga, and the Villages of Scottsville and Churchville to hold an appointment-only Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection at the Town of Chili Highway Garage, 3235 Chili Avenue, on Saturday, September 19th, 2009 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

“This collection gives all Monroe County residents the opportunity to safely dispose of potentially hazardous chemicals, which in turn extend the useful life of our County landfill,” said Brooks. “This program also shows how Monroe County and our local municipalities are teaming up to better meet the needs of our residents in order to make our community a more sustainable place.”

Most HHW is safe when used and stored properly, but products may turn into environmental hazards when they become unwanted and/or are disposed of improperly. The collection is open to all Monroe County residents and is by appointment only. Residents must make an appointment by September 18th to reduce waiting times and ensure safety.
