County Educates Thousands About Recycling at Clothesline Arts Fest

Festival-goers learn about the County's Recycling Education Campaign.
County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that Monroe County’s Recycling Education Campaign reached out to thousands of festival-goers at the Clothesline Arts Festival in Rochester last weekend. “Street Teams” and “Promo Bike” riders handed out nearly 3,000 memo-pads made of 100% post-consumer recyclable paper to festival patrons.
“Monroe County’s Recycling Education Campaign continues to educate consumers across our community about which paper items they can and cannot recycle so that we can become a more sustainable County,” said Brooks. “The efforts of our ‘Street Team’ and ‘Promo Bike’ members show Monroe County’s dedication to recycling.”
The memo-pads remind people that all clean paper can be recycled; including paper-based food boxes, discarded mail, phonebooks and gift wrap. Residents in Monroe County consume nearly 500 million pounds of paper each year. The County hopes the program will help residents recycle up to 10,000 more tons of paper annually.
“Promo Bike” riders and “Street Teams” also handed out more nearly 6,000 memo-pads at the Corn Hill Arts Festival and Park Avenue Festival this summer. They plan to also educate consumers next month at the Hilton Apple Fest. The Monroe County Recycling Education Campaign also features several television spots that air daily on a variety of local and cable stations.
