Brooks Breaks Ground on County's New Pediatrics and Visitation Center

Building will be on Monroe Community Hospital campus.

County Executive Maggie Brooks was joined by the County’s Human Services Commissioner Kelly Reed and Director of Public Health Dr. Andrew Doniger as the County broke ground on the Monroe County Pediatrics and Visitation Center.

The $8.6 million dollar facility will be the first of its kind nationwide and will co-locate the County’s medical services for foster children with a supervised visitation center. It is expected to be completed in Fall 2010.

" This innovative, state-of-the-art facility will allow Monroe County to improve outcomes for children and families through a coordinated and comprehensive approach to health and well-being,” said Brooks. “The Pediatrics and Visitation Center will provide a centralized location for delivering primary and mental health services, family-centered programming and supervised visitation for nearly 1,000 children and families in foster care programs throughout the area.”

The Monroe County Pediatrics and Visitation Center will be a 22,000 square foot facility which will house the County’s premier medical home for foster children, Starlight Pediatrics and a center for children to visit with their parents in a safe, supervised setting.

Monroe County’s facility will also host a wide array of medical services; including pediatric health, health care coordination, mental health and developmental screening. The Pediatrics and Visitation Center will also host a community visitation center, birth parent education and extended health care for children in transition out of foster care. Monroe County’s Departments of Human Services and Public Health, as well as numerous community partners, have been instrumental in making this project a reality. This Center is sure to exhibit Monroe County’s commitment to improving the social and emotional well-being of our foster children by providing a loving, nurturing and safe environment for their care,” concluded Brooks.
