Brooks Invites Community to Help Pick-Up-the-Parks

County Executive Maggie Brooks announced the 3rd annual Pick-Up-The-Parks Project, a green initiative hosted by the Monroe County Parks Department and local businesses Sunnking Electronics Recycling and Cascades Recovery. Volunteers from across the community will be cleaning-up seven Monroe County Parks on Saturday, April 28th, 2012. The event begins at 9:00 a.m. at each of the designated County Parks and is open to individuals and groups throughout the community. All are welcome.

“Our Monroe County Park System is a genuine community treasure and contributes to the high quality of life that our residents enjoy,” said Brooks. “Maintaining the beauty of our pristine parks is vitally important and I cannot thank our volunteers and sponsors enough for their outstanding support and stewardship.”

This year, Pick-Up-The-Parks will expand to the following seven Monroe County Parks: Churchville; Durand Eastman; Genesee Valley; Northampton; Powder Mills; Seneca and Webster.

Immediately following the clean-up activities, County Executive Brooks will host a centralized Thank You Picnic and Eco-Fair for all participating volunteers at 12 noon at the Roundhouse located in Genesee Valley Park. In addition to a complimentary picnic lunch, attendees will have the opportunity to gather with volunteers from all of the park clean-up sites and participate in a free e-scrap collection. Sunnking will accept old and outdated electronics and distribute coupons good toward the purchase of refurbished electronics at their retail center located in Brockport.

Pick-Up-The-Parks participants are encouraged to bring a pair of gloves, their own work tools and dress appropriately for the weather. Complimentary light refreshments will be provided before the clean-up at each site. Specific meeting sites and pre-registration information is available on the Monroe County website at monroecounty.gov/parks or by calling (585) 753-PARK.
