Dinolfo Announces Giardino Named Community Person Of The Year By The Hearing Loss Association Of America Rochester Chapter

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo announced that the Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) Director of Aviation, Michael A. Giardino was unanimously named ‘Community Person of the Year’ by the Board of Directors of the Hearing Loss Association of America Rochester Chapter (HLAA Rochester). The Board presented Mr. Giardino with the award during their annual dinner held last evening.

The ‘Community Person of the Year Award’ is given to an individual in the community who has consistently shown commitment to understanding the needs of hearing loss people and who have worked towards implementing positive changes to better help the hearing loss person’s navigation of the hearing world.

“The ROC Airport is always working to improve and enhance the travel experience for all who use the Airport,” said Dinolfo. “Under the leadership of Director Giardino, ROC remains committed to making every passenger experience pleasant, efficient and comfortable. Those efforts have resulted in our Airport becoming a model for others across the nation when it comes to services that assist passengers with hearing loss.”

The Airport continues to explore advancements in visual paging, visual emergency notification and installation of hearing loop technology at ticketing counter and airline gate counter locations. Collaboration between HLAA Rochester and the ROC Airport have made these developments possible.

“Mike has been a real champion of the issues that concern the hearing loss community,” said Cindy Kellner, HLAA Rochester Chapter. “His commitment to accessibility for all is second to none. He genuinely cares.”
