Dinolfo Announces Swimming at Ontario Beach Open for 2016

Dinolfo Announces Swimming at Ontario Beach Open for 2016

County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo announced that public swimming at Ontario Beach Park, located in Rochester’s Charlotte Neighborhood, is now open for the 2016 Season.

“Here in Monroe County, we welcome the summer weather with the opening of swimming at Ontario Beach Park,” said Dinolfo. “With a sunny weekend upon us, the sandy shore and waters of Lake Ontario will be a top destination to cool off and spend time with family. It is important to note that in high temperatures families must ensure that both children and adults are constantly applying sunscreen, drinking water and spending time in the shade.”

With Monroe County Lifeguards now on duty, swimming will be permitted at Ontario Beach Park each day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Swimming is only allowed when lifeguards are on duty.

As Lake Ontario is a large natural body of water, swimming is only permitted when conditions and water quality are favorable.  A recorded telephone message will be updated daily at (585) 753-5887 with information on beach conditions and whether swimming is permitted.  It is important to note that even if swimming is not permitted, the wide sandy beach at the park will remain open for recreational use.

“Come on up and swim at our sandy beach , ride our historic carousel, stroll along our wooden boardwalk, take in a free concert, enjoy a picnic with your family and grab a Slush Puppie at our snack stand,”  said County Parks Director Larry Staub.   “Ontario Beach Park is the summertime go-to spot in Monroe County!”

The 2016 Swimming Season at Ontario Beach Park is scheduled to end on Labor Day.
