Dinolfo Announces Naming Contest for New Sea Lion Pup

County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo and Seneca Park Zoo officials today announced that the sea lion pup born to 7-year-old Marina on June 19 is doing very well and can now be seen on exhibit. Animal care staff has determined that the sea lion pup is female.

“Our new sea lion pup has almost everything she needs, from a loving mother, to caring staff, to a wonderful home with plenty of visitors, but she is still missing something important – a name!” said Dinolfo. “We will be harnessing the power of social media to give everyone an opportunity to participate in this naming contest. Simply tweet your suggestions to my Twitter account @CherylDinolfo or comment on my Facebook page to enter your favorite suggestions. Make your entry today, because the contest ends August 11th!”

The public is invited to submit their name suggestions for the female sea lion pup through Thursday, August 11th by tweeting @CherylDinolfo or leaving a comment on the County Executive’s Facebook page. The Zoo is also accepting name submissions at senecaparkzoo.org/pupname. The winning name will be announced in late August.

“This is a great time to visit the Zoo, and now it will be even more special for guests as they meet the pup and give us their name suggestions,” said Zoo Society Executive Director Pamela Reed Sanchez. “We are thrilled to make Zoo supporters part of the process.”

The Zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. The best time of day to visit the new pup is in the late morning to early afternoon.
