Dinolfo Announces Name of the Zoo's Newest Sea Lion Pup
County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo was joined by Zoo officials to announce the name of the Seneca Park Zoo’s new female sea lion pup now residing in the Rocky Coasts exhibit. The name Sunny was chosen out of more than 1,700 suggestions. The public was asked to submit names between July 7th and August 11th.
“Public participation in the naming of new animals at the Zoo is always popular and continues to serve as a testament to the strong community support for Seneca Park Zoo and the wonderful animals in its care,” said Dinolfo. “This process has been exciting to watch as there was an overwhelming response with so many residents submitting their thoughtful suggestions. I am happy that we now have a great name for our newest addition to our incredible Zoo.”
Sunny was born on June 19th to Seneca Park Zoo resident 7-year-old Marina.
“We have been thrilled by the outpouring of interest and support from the community for Sunny,” said Pamela Reed Sanchez, Executive Director of the Seneca Park Zoo Society. “She has been the hit of the summer, providing moments of joy and wonder for thousands of guests, and hopefully inspiring many to do what they can to conserve this wonderful species. These connections are the core of our mission as an organization.”
The Seneca Park Zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. The best time of day to visit the new sea lion pup is in the late morning to early afternoon.
