Dinolfo Welcomes Ridesharing Services To Monroe County

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo is proud to welcome ridesharing services to Monroe County as of 12:01am on Thursday morning. Following Dinolfo’s successful efforts to rally public support in favor of ridesharing, the New York State Legislature and Governor Andrew Cuomo authorized legislation to bring ridesharing to Upstate New York.

“From the start of my term as County Executive, I have worked to ensure that county residents have access to convenient, safe and cost-effective travel options like ridesharing which also provide new employment options for people in our community,” said Dinolfo. “It is gratifying to see ridesharing make its arrival in Upstate New York and I know that our residents and businesses will greatly benefit from this addition to our community.”

Ridesharing provides flexible job opportunities for our residents and their services lead to consumers receiving accessible and affordable means of transportation. Not only do riders have an easier method of travel throughout the County but local businesses have access to a larger market of consumers. Ridesharing is great for our local economy. There is also evidence that the use of ridesharing services reduces DUI arrests and impaired driving.

For airport travel, arriving passengers at the Greater Rochester International Airport can request a ride from Lyft and meet their driver near the Valet Stand outside of the baggage claim. Departing passengers may be dropped off anywhere along departures roadway.

Last week, the Monroe County Airport Authority approved a resolution allowing the Airport to enter into agreements with Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) such as Lyft to operate on Airport property. Negotiations with other TNCs, such as Uber, remain ongoing. There are no restrictions on ridesharing options outside the Greater Rochester International Airport.
