Dinolfo Announces Teacher Appreciation Day at Seneca Park Zoo

County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo and Seneca Park Zoo Society officials announced the Seneca Park Zoo will host Teacher Appreciation Day on Sunday, October 1. In appreciation of the many contributions they make in our community, all Monroe County teachers will receive free Zoo admission for the day.

“We are grateful that so many local teachers use our Zoo as an enhancement to lessons taught in the classroom, offering their students a unique, hands-on experience in a fun setting,” said Dinolfo. “By offering teachers their own special trip to the Zoo free of cost, Teacher Appreciation Day is one small way we thank the men and women who are educating the next generation of Monroe County residents. I invite all local teachers and their families to join us for a fun and educational Sunday at the Zoo on Teacher Appreciation Day.”

Teacher Appreciation Day will give teachers and their families an opportunity to check out the ZooMobile, meet some education animals up close, and learn about the ZooTeen program to share that information with their students.

“With inquiry-based and STEAM-related programs for grades preschool through high school, teachers can find the right program for their students, subject, and curriculum needs,” said Pamela Reed Sanchez, Seneca Park Zoo Society Executive Director. “All Zoo Society education programs also meet Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards.”

Stations throughout the Zoo will introduce teachers to different expedition options for field trips, and an invertebrate sorting station will highlight the Zoo Society’s citizen science projects.

Participating teachers will receive an informational Teacher Guide and classroom poster, a 15% coupon to use in the ZooShop, and a chance to win a free expedition, ZooMobile, or Butterfly Beltway program. Teacher Appreciation Day will take place during regular Zoo hours, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
