Brooks Announces Opening Season Of Historic Dentzel Carousel At Ontario Beach

County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that the historic Dentzel Menagerie Carousel at Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte, will open for the 2013 Season on Friday, May 24th.  This year will be the carousel’s 108th continuous season at the Park, where it first opened in 1905.  To mark the first day of the 2013 season, FREE carousel rides will be offered, regardless of age, from 12:00 Noon until 9:00 p.m. on Friday.

Brooks Announces Hazardous Household Waste And Electronics Collection On County's Eastside

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that the County’s Department of Environmental Services (DES) and the towns of Perinton and Pittsford as well as the Villages of Pittsford, East Rochester and Fairport have teamed up to hold a free household hazardous waste (HHW), paper shredding and electronics collection day on Saturday, May 18th from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Perinton Highway Garage at 100 Cobbs Lane. Appointments are required for the HHW collection, but are not needed for recycling electronics.

Brooks Selects Former City Police Chief to Serve as Public Safety Director

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced her appointment of David T. Moore to the position of Monroe County Public Safety Director. Moore is best known locally for his service as Rochester Police Chief under former Mayor Bob Duffy, as well as his tenure as Director of the City’s Office of Public Integrity. His appointment follows the retirement of Steve Bowman, who had served as Monroe County Public Safety Director since 2004.

Brooks Announces Birth of Two Lion Cubs At Seneca Park Zoo

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks welcomed two lion cubs born on March 7 at the Seneca Park Zoo and will soon reside in the A Step Into Africa Exhibit. The cubs, one male and one female, born to first-time parents Asha and Chester who have lived at the Zoo since the lion exhibit opened last year. Their initial litter numbered four cubs, two of which failed to thrive and did not live past the first two weeks.

Monroe County Partners With Law Enforcement To Host “National Take Back Day”

County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that Monroe County will once again partner with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to host a special pharmaceutical waste collection day. The County, local law enforcement agencies, and the DEA will a “National Take Back Day” collection this Saturday, April 27th at the Monroe County EcoPark, 10 Avion Drive from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in addition to several other locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Monroe County, Webster & Penfield to Host Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Brooks Announces The Return of Canadian Lynx to the Seneca Park Zoo

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that the Seneca Park Zoo is again home to Canadian lynx. Two new lynx arrived at the Zoo in mid-March and one is currently on exhibit. After gradually being introduced to each other, both lynx will live in the Zoo’s former Cougar Exhibit.
