Major household appliances that do not contain refrigerant (i.e. Freon) include:
- Washers
- Dryers
- Microwave Ovens
- Ovens/Stoves
- Dishwashers
- Gas Grills
- Hot Water Heaters
- Trash Compactors
Refrigerant-containing appliances (refrigerators, freezers, air-conditioners, dehumidifiers, water coolers, etc.) must have the refrigerant removed prior to recycling. Refrigerant-containing appliances can be recycled at the ecopark only during Special Collections. FEE APPLIES (credit/debit card only). $15 per item.
When purchasing a new appliance, ask if the retailer provides "haul away service" for the appliance that is being replaced. In some instances, this may be cheaper than recycling it on your own.
RG&E/National Grid is currently offering a service to their customers to pickup and recycle old refrigerators and freezers that are in working condition (minimum of 10 cubic yards in size). Local scrap yards will accept non-refrigerant-containing appliances and provide remuneration.
