Plastic shopping bags and flexible product wrapping are not accepted in curbside recycling bins. Shopping bags and the following plastic material should be returned to the store for recycling: bags from newspapers, dry cleaning, bread and produce; wrapping from toilet paper, diapers, napkins, paper towels, furniture, electronic components and beverage cases; cereal/cracker box liners; Tyvek (no glue, labels or other materials); plastic shipping envelopes (no bubble wrap - remove labels). NYS Plastic Bag Reduction, Reuse and Recycling Act requires most larger stores and retail chains providing plastic shopping bags to customers to set up a plastic bag/wrap recycling program.
