Monroe County Foreign Trade Zone #141 has designated two general purpose sites in Monroe County. These sites are operated by Monroe Foreign Trade Zone Operators, Inc. at 39 Breck Street, Rochester, NY 14609 and Supply Chain Services at 847 West Ave., Building 10, Rochester, NY 14611.

A foreign trade zone is a site within the United States designated by the Department of Commerce where foreign and domestic merchandise is considered to be in international commerce. Because a foreign trade zone is considered to be outside the Customs Territory of the U.S. foreign or domestic merchandise may enter this enclave without a formal Customs entry, or the payment of Customs duties or government excise taxes.

When a final product is exported from a foreign trade zone, no U.S. Customs duty or excise tax is levied. If, however, the final product is imported from the foreign trade zone into the U.S., Customs duty and excise taxes are due only at the time of formal entry into the U.S. The duty paid is the lower of that applicable to the product itself or its component parts. It's easy to see that a foreign trade zone provides opportunities for Customs duty savings. It also offers one of the most flexible methods of handling domestic and imported merchandise.

Pactech was founded in 1991 and is a local supplier of innovative flexible packaging solutions.

Mahany Welding Supply County Executive Maggie Brooks today announced that Mahany Welding Supply (Mahany) has been named Monroe County’s “Business of the Month”. Founded in 1946, Mahany specializes in the distribution, sale and servicing of welding related supplies and equipment.

Mahany also offers a variety of welder training courses that include: day clinics, night courses, collegiate and vocational courses through Monroe Community College and RIT, and professional welder qualification programs. Mahany has trained over 3,000 welders in the past ten years.

“Mahany is an incredibly unique small business that puts Monroe County on the map in a number of different ways,” said County Executive Brooks. “Skilled welders are currently in high demand in our region. Through a wide-variety of training programs, Mahany Welding Supply is helping local employers fill a critical void while also connecting people with skilled jobs.”
