- Respond to public inquiries regarding outdoor air quality concerns.
- Investigate complaints regarding manufacturing processes, incineration, fuel burning equipment, dust fallout and odors impacting public health. Locate and evaluate the source and its emissions, request implementation of control measures and, when appropriate, refer to NYSDEC-Region 8 for follow-up and enforcement action.
- Investigate complaints of open burning and initiate enforcement to terminate illegal burning.

- Provide guidance, information and referrals to inquiries regarding health concerns to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and electromagnetic fields from power lines and household equipment.
- Provide information and referrals to inquiries regarding Radon gas in indoor environments.

Toxics Control

Responsible for:
- Providing guidance and information to community concerns in handling and disposal of chemicals, pesticides, infectious wastes and asbestos containing materials. Investigating situations where potential exposures may occur.
- Investigating situations or conditions where a potential exposure to asbestos may exist. Initiating enforcement measures to eliminate health impacts.
- Responding to service or Freedom of Information requests regarding hazardous material incidents, waste disposal sites and related environmental or health impacts.
