Monroe County, as part of the e-Government strategy, has been a leader in opening up government via the worldwide web. County Executive Maggie Brooks has been instrumental in leading Monroe County into the cyber-age with a website that is not only informative, but also allows citizens to access government and services 24-hours a day, 7 days per week.  Many of our online services are accessed by thousands of web visits per day and help our citizens, a few top online services include:

  • Airport Arrivals and Departures - Greater Rochester International Airport real-time flight information at your fingertips, track a flight in-process and see the latest status.

  • 911-Incidents/Traffic Conditions - view real-time incident information, as-it-happens from the 911-center in Rochester, NY.  This service has been a popular feature for local news outlets and a large populus of citizens.

  • Civil Service Testing - see upcoming tests, download applications, track results and personal scoring online with the Civil Service tools available online.

These are just a few of the many services available thru the Monroe County website.  The website, and our County Leadership, have been recognized for innovation, use of technology and opening up government via the web.  Monroe County has always been known for having a leadership position in New York State thru its programs and use of technology - this County website reflects the initiative and the continuous development of new programs will further the linkage of the County services and its citizens.

2009 4th Place Winner - County Portal

The Best of Web is an annual awards program that recognizes the most innovative, user-friendly state and local government portals. This national awards program judges state, city and county Web sites on their innovation, Web-delivery of public services, efficiency, economy, and functionality for improved citizen access.
The Digital Government Achievement Award is a national program that recognizes outstanding agency and department Web sites and applications that enhance information interactions, transactions and/or services. The categories include government-to-government, government-to-business, government-to-citizen, and government internal.

 

Rochester Business Journal Best of Web

2009 Best of Web Finalist - Real Propery Portal

MonroeCounty.gov was recognized as a 2009 Best of Web Finalist for the development of the function-rich Real Property Portal.  The portal was developed in 2006 and launched in a two-year roll-out which provides constituents the ability to view the attributes of property parcels within Monroe County. Items available include: sales history, tax history, property attributes and additions/changes to the property. It provides the ability to view the property on a map, aerial view, look up demographic information and pay your tax bill online.

Collaboration Award in Portals

Monroe County was recognized for the development of the Real Property Portal and the collaboration across the 27 taxing bodies, utilization and input from multiple internal departments and the development work of outside vendors.
The Center for Digital Government recognizes the development of constituent services while leveraging technology in providing feature-rich portals as part of an e-government strategy.

Rochester Business Journal Best of Web

2008 Best Government Website Winner

MonroeCounty.gov was recognized as the 2008 winning website for being a 'feature-rich' website in the government category for having information well-organized and a wide-variety of well thought-out content that is organized and accessible.  The site was recognized by the judges with the vital concept of 'opening up government' which is the backbone of the e-govenrment website initiative started in 2004.  The website features many online services like flight information and incident information in real-time, interactive forms and access to many services that were historically available by visiting the County Offices in person.

 

 

eBusiness Association

2007 eBusiness Executive of the Year Winner

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks was recognized as the eBusiness Executive of the Year in the Government, Academia, Non-profit category by the eBusiness Association. Established in 1996, the eBusiness Association has actively aided in the growth of member firms throughout western New York, providing individual members with the support they need to capitalize on new opportunities in the steadily expanding eBusiness marketplace. Today, the Association provides eBusiness seminars, workshops and many of the other resources necessary to assure business success via the Web or Internet.

New York State Webmasters' Guild

2007 Best of the Web Winner - Local Government

Monroe County and specifically an online e-Government Rich Internet Application was recognized in the "Best Use of Technology" category for the Real Property Portal.  The Real Property Portal is a flash-based application that allows users to draw invidual and multiple propoerty records form the Monroe County database.  In addition users can view property images, review property attributes and pay taxes online while receiving up-to-the-minute tax bill information. The Webmasters' Guild was created to provide a means for those individuals within state and local government that have responsibilities for their agencies Web Sites to share ideas, issues, problem solutions and to suggest and/or develop education opportunities to benefit web development professionals.



 

The New York State Forum

2006 Best of Web Winner - Local Government

The New York State Forum is a network of state and local government organizations and information technology leaders and professionals concerned with information management, policy, and operations.
Information is a vital resource for New York state and local government. Government organizations have widely adopted information technologies to improve their abilities to meet their responsibilities. These technologies, the information they process, and the people who use and manage them are essential components of modern governments.
