Education/Public Participation Task Group

This task group coordinates, tracks, and in some cases implements, stormwater education and public participation activities. The task group is comprised of town and village representatives from the Coalition as well as representatives from several of the Coalition’s partner agencies, including , the Water Education Collaborative, and the Environmental Management Council. In 2004, the task group created a Stormwater Wetlands Brochure (686k PDF) for residents regarding actions they can take to reduce stormwater pollution.

On April 19, 2005, the task group hosted a County-wide public meeting at the Penfield Town Hall so that residents could review their municipality’s stormwater management program annual report and become involved. The meeting was videotaped and broadcast on community access television channels throughout Monroe County. If you would like to borrow a copy of the videotape, contact the Stormwater Coalition staff at 585 753-5472 or 753-5468.

The task group also coordinated a Stormwater Coalition logo design contest for students. In April 2005, the Coalition selected the entry from Greg Cunneyworth, a senior at Pittsford Sutherland High School, as the winner. Greg’s design is now in use and is featured on this site and all Coalition produced education and training materials. The Coalition awarded honorable mention prizes to Amelia Folkins and Christine Bricault, both juniors at Penfield High School.

The task group also developed a stormwater door hanger and bookmark. These items provide tips on how residents can reduce stormwater pollution, as well as contacts for more information. The door hanger is being hung on doors throughout Monroe County by volunteers as they stencil storm drains with the message “Don’t Dump” or monitor streams. The bookmark is being distributed at community education events. If you would like copies, please contact the Stormwater Coalition staff at the number listed above.
