Each year, Monroe County offers several employment opportunities.  You must be at least 18 years of age, except where noted and a Monroe County resident for these jobs.

Bridge Operator - DOTN/AN/A

Operates a bascule lift bridge, operates a control console to lift & close the bridge. Inspects the bridge to clear debris from road surface and sidewalks. Keeps daily log of operations. Must understand and apply the rules and regulations of waterway navigation and have basic knowledge of moving components.

Engineering Aide - DOT (Bridge Division)N/AN/A

Inspects existing storm drainage systems & outfalls, and collects field data (4 days/week) AND inputs GIS data for storm water outfall inventory (1 day/week). Work in the field is performed independently & involves identifying storm water system outfalls & updating existing inventory database. Records data daily on a handheld GIS unit & drives a County vehicle. Transfers field collection data into GIS database, correlates outfall data with existing culvert inventory, & build outfall map file. Works independently in the office preparing maps for field use by making prints & transferring data onto maps.

Environmental Aide - Public HealthN/AN/A

Collects water samples from private wells and the beach; conducts field testing for onsite sewage disposal, inspects temporary food booths, conducts rabies vaccination clinics, conducts mosquito surveillance and control, conducts lead environmental inspections, pool inspections and investigates complaints. Assists full time staff with special projects, surveys, and activities. Performs other related work such as answering phones, copying and filing. Work covers summer workload and for vacationing full time staff.

Assists in building forms for concrete structures; provides maintenance and protection of traffic; operates light duty trucks to transport workers & materials; assists with preventative maintenance activities on the O’Rorke Bridge. Work may be performed in adverse weather.

Youth Worker - Tobacco ProgramN/AN/A

Works with an Environmental Aide or Public Health Sanitarian and conducts tobacco compliance checks at retail tobacco outlets in Monroe County. Completes necessary paperwork to document checks and provides testimony at Administrative Enforcement Hearings as necessary when tobacco purchases occur.
