County Employment/Civil Service

If you are interested in applying for employment with Monroe County or applying for a Civil Service test offered by the Monroe County Civil Service Commission, please print and complete each page of the application and bring it with you to the Human Resources Department or mail it to:

Note: You may be asked to fill out additional paperwork directly at the Human Resources Department.

If you have applied for one or more examinations offered by the City of Rochester, New York State or other County Civil Service Commissions on the same date, you must complete a cross filer form as well.
If the exam you are taking requires a qualifying typing performance test and you have already completed a typing test, please read and complete a Typing Test Waiver Form. The exam announcement will inform you of the minimum words per minute required to qualify.
If the exam you are taking requires a qualifying stenographic performance test and you have already completed a stenographic test, please read and complete a Stenographic Test Waiver Form. The exam announcement will inform you of the minimum words per minute required to qualify.
Veterans wishing to claim additional examination credits as a veteran or disabled veteran of a period of war or conflict as prescribed by the Veteran’s Administration must file Form VC-1 and/or Form VC-4 along with a copy of their discharge papers.
If you have applied for a Civil Service Exam or have recently taken an exam and are awaiting results, please complete the Change of Address Form. Be sure to fill out the form completely, so we can accurately update all your exam records.
