Monroe County Legislator Richard Yolevich represents the 1st Legislative District, which includes the towns of Parma, and portions of Ogden and Sweden. Dick was elected in 2005, and began his legislative term on January 1, 2006.

Legislator Yolevich currently serves as Vice Chair of the Intergovernmental Relations Committee, and is also a member of Human Services Committee. Beyond his committee memberships and other duties as a Monroe County Legislator, he has been a Town of Parma Councilman since 2000.

The start of Dick’s tenure on the Parma Town Council did not mark the beginning of his efforts to better his community through public service. Dick has been proactive in his community for more than 25 years. Over the years he has spent significant time on the Parma Zoning Board of Appeals, and has taken an active interest in local schools by serving in several capacities for the Hilton Central School District. He was member of several committees including the District Food Service, High School Communication, and Junior High School Steering Committees. Dick also spent over 8 years as a girls’ softball coach for the Hilton-Parma Recreation Department.

Dick draws from his numerous successes in the private sector to aid in decision making for his constituents. He is educated and experienced in a wide array of fields that gives him a uniquely comprehensive perspective when looking at issues that face his community. Dick’s entrepreneurial mindset has served him well in his nearly three decades of success in the private sector, where he has owned and operated several successful businesses, as well as gained experience working for others.

Village Doughnuts is a name well known to residents of the 1st District, a tribute to Dick’s ability to see an opportunity and turn it into long term success as he spent over a quarter century as the owner and operator of multiple units in the area. Dick also spent nearly 15 years as a licensed real estate agent and has accumulated valuable knowledge of the field. Additionally, he has owned and operated Better Hearing Associates, Inc., specializing in consumer sales of hearing aids, as well as Business Match-Ups, Inc., which successfully paired business owners with potential owners or investors.

Dick is an Honorably Discharged Veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served in the Special Services Division, and is a Vietnam Veteran as well. He is a lifelong resident of Monroe County, and has called the Town of Parma home for nearly four decades. Dick and his wife Susan have two children, and four grandchildren.

Wayne Zyra (R/C)

Wayne Zyra was appointed to the position of Monroe County Legislature on January 3, 2000. He was successfully re-elected in 2000 and 2001, and again this past November to his second consecutive full four-year term. In January of 2004, Wayne was selected by his colleagues to serve as the President of the Monroe County Legislature.

As President of the Legislature, Wayne presides at Legislature meetings and serves as an ex-officio member on all of the Legislature’s nine standing committees. In addition, Wayne represents the legislative branch of county government on the boards of many local agencies, including the Genesee Transportation Council, the Greater Rochester Visitor’s Association, the Rochester Museum and Science Center and the Monroe Community College Board of Trustees.

A resident of the Town of Sweden for 29 years, he began his service to the public as a member of the Sweden Zoning Ordinance Review Commission where he was Chairperson for the last two years of his term. From 1981 to 1992 Wayne served as a member of the Sweden Planning Board and was Chairperson for the last four years of his tenure there. Wayne spent the next four years as a member of the Sweden Town Council.

Professionally, Wayne retired as a Product Development Manager for Eastman Kodak Company. During his 32 years at Kodak he had the opportunity to contribute to the development of many different, state-of-the-art photographic imaging systems. Prior to his coming to Kodak, Wayne was employed by Grumman Aircraft Company where he was a part of the Lunar Lander Program. This provided Wayne with one of the most memorable experiences of his career. Not only did he help to develop the craft that landed on the moon, but he also had the opportunity to work with and train some of the astronauts that landed on the moon.

Wayne and his wife Margaret have three married children, Kristen, Darren, and Todd, and five grandchildren.

Mary A. Valerio (R/C)

3rd District–Chili

Mary A.Valerio was appointed to the Monroe County Legislature in January of 2004 and elected to a one year term in November, 2004. She was recently re-elected by her community this past November to serve a full, four-year term. Legislator Valerio represents the 3rd legislative district, which includes most of the Town of Chili.

Mary serves as Chair of the Recreation and Education Committee, which oversees the Monroe County Parks Department, Library system, Monroe Community College as well as the arts and conservation programs sponsored by Monroe County. She also serves as Vice-Chair of the Agenda/Charter Committee, and is a member of the Environmental Management Council.

In addition to her legislative duties, Mary is employed as a Spanish teacher at Twelve-Corners Middle School in Brighton. She completed her B.A. in Spanish (which includes a year of study in Madrid, Spain), as well as graduate studies for Professional Certification in Spanish K-12 at SUNY Brockport.

A life long resident of Chili, Mary has participated in numerous volunteer activities in her community. She is a member of the Breast Cancer Coalition and Parish Life Committee at St. Pius X Church, which she chaired for ten years. She has also taught various religious education classes and has assisted with the annual Vacation Bible School Program. Mary is currently on the Board of Directors of the Roberts Wesleyan Community College Orchestra. Legislator Valerio also volunteers her time as a member of the Italian Women’s Civic Club of Rochester.

Over the years, she has assisted in fund raising for the Gates Chili Middle School and High School Theater Groups, Boy Scout Troop #116 and GC Sports Boosters. At the 2003 Gates Chili High School Fall Varsity banquet Mary was presented with the “Role Model Award 2003” in recognition of her volunteerism and courageous battle against breast cancer. In the past, Mary also served several years as member of the board of directors of the Rochester Area Pre-School and as Secretary of Chili Baseball. In addition, she worked as Volunteer Coordinator and guest art presenter for the Florence Brasser Elementary School Art Appreciation Program and as a member of St. Mary’s Hospital Seton Group 87.

Mary and her husband James live at 43 DaVinci Drive in Chili and are proud parents of their four sons: James, Marc, Matthew and Samuel.

Steve Tucciarello (R)

Steve Tucciarello represents the fourth legislative district of Monroe County which includes the Town of Gates and portions of the Town of Chili. Steve was elected to a full four-year term in the November 2005 elections. Legislator Tucciarello currently serves as Chairman of the Transportation Committee and is also a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee.

Beyond his duties as a Monroe County Legislator, Steve serves his community in a variety of other ways. He is currently a Director of the Westside YMCA, a Director of the Gates-Chili Chamber of Commerce, and is a legislative representative on the Monroe County Airport Authority. Legislator Tucciarello is also a member of Gates Amita and the F.O. Eagles. In the past, Steve has served as Chairman of the Gates Zoning Board and as a member of the Gates Conservation Board. He was also the Gates Town Civil Officer and on the Board of the Gates Republican Club, where he has served as a four-term President.

Legislator Tucciarello is a successful business owner as well. He is President and General Manager of Colony Dry Cleaners in Gates.

Steve and his wife Lynette have two children and reside in the Town of Gates.

Mark J. Cassetti (R/C/I)

Mark Cassetti represents the 5th Legislative District which encompasses the heart of the Town of Greece. He was first appointed to the Monroe County Legislature in May of 2001, and in November of that year was elected by the people for a full four-year term. Showing their continuing support of his leadership, Legislator Cassetti was re-elected in November of 2005, receiving the highest percentage of total votes of any Monroe County Legislator elected in 2005.

In addition to his general legislative duties, Mark serves as Chairperson of the Environment and Public Works Committee, and is a member of the Transportation Committee as well. In the past, he has served as Vice President of the Legislature, as well as Chairperson of the Public Safety, Agenda/Charter, and Recreation and Education Committees.

Prior to becoming a legislator, Mark served as a Greece Town Councilman when he defeated an incumbent councilmember in 1997.

Mark is Executive Vice President of the Cassetti Agency, Inc., a local general insurance agency. An active community participant, Legislator Cassetti’s memberships, past and present, include many local organizations such as the Greece Senior Council, Greece Little League, Parkland-Brookside School Parent Teacher Association, Northwest YMCA and is a legislative representative on the Monroe County Airport Authority.

Legislator Cassetti earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with Distinction at the University of Rochester. He also holds a Master of Science Education from Nazareth College of Rochester.

Mark and his wife, Silvana, are long-time Greece residents. The Cassetti's have two children, Andrew and Julianne.

Monroe County Legislator Ray DiRaddo represents the 6th Legislative District. The 6th Legislative District encompasses the Eastern portions of the Town of Greece and part of Charlotte. Ray was elected to serve a two-year term in this past November’s elections. While this is his first term as a Monroe County Legislator, Ray has been serving our community for over two decades in several different capacities.

Ray served as Greece Town Justice from 2000 until 2005. As a Greece Town Justice, Ray was asked to serve many times as an acting Rochester City Court Judge.

Prior to that, Legislator DiRaddo served as a Town of Greece Councilman for the 2nd Ward and President of the Greece Chamber of Commerce.

Legislator DiRaddo is an Attorney and Counselor at Law of nearly thirty years. His office is in the 6th legislative District. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Monroe County Bar Association. Ray was the vice president of the Monroe County Magistrates Association.

He is managing partner of the Burgess, DiRaddo, Nier, & Case Law Firm, and is currently Greece Town Attorney and General Counsel for several fire districts, including Barnard Fire District, North Greece Fire District and Ridge Road Fire District.

Ray is a graduate of the Aquinas Institute, and received his B.S. in Physics at St. John Fisher College. He earned his Juris Doctor Degree at the St. Louis University School of Law.

Douglas B. Dobson (R/C)

Legislator Doug Dobson represents the 7th Legislative District which currently encompasses the northern half of the Town of Greece, along with the Charlotte portion of the City of Rochester. Re-elected by the people in the November 2005 election to serve a full four-year term, Doug was first appointed to the Monroe County Legislature in 1998. Legislator Dobson is currently Chairman of the Legislature’s Human Services Committee, and also serves on the Intergovernmental Relations Committee.

In addition to his eight years of experience as a Monroe County Legislator, Doug draws from his years of public service for the Town of Greece as well. While serving as a Town Councilman, Doug was Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and worked diligently to curtail wasteful spending and enact public safety initiatives. Prior to serving on the Greece Town Board, where he began his tenure as 1st Ward Councilman in 1994, Doug also served as a member of the Town of Greece Zoning Board of Appeals and the Town of Greece Planning Board.

Doug volunteers on a number of special advisory boards and community groups including the Monroe County Water Authority, Greece Chamber of Commerce, and the Rochester Chapter Project Management Institute. In addition, he has served as a Director and Chairman of the Board for the Lakeshore Volunteer Fire Department, and Co-Chairman of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America Annual Charity Bike Ride for Mind and Body.

In addition to being a legislator, Doug is employed as a Worldwide Purchasing Manager at Eastman Kodak.

A 35-year resident of Greece, Doug graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Doug and his wife Judy of 27 years, reside at 1630 Edgemere Drive with their two children, Christopher and Jennifer. The Dobsons are members of Mother of Sorrows Church.

8th District–Webster

Monroe County Legislator Dave Malta was elected to represent Webster residents in the 8th Legislative District. Dave is a small-business owner and has been a Webster homeowner for over 27 years. Dave was appointed to the Legislature on January 1, 2004, elected in November 2004, and re-elected in November 2005.

Dave was elected to serve out the term of former Legislator Sean Hanna who was appointed Regional Director for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

In the Legislature, Dave currently serves as Chair of the Intergovernmental Relations Committee, Vice-Chair of the Human Services Committee and as a member of the powerful Ways & Means Committee. In addition to his legislative duties, Dave is a member of the Monroe County Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board, Council of the Elders, the Fisheries Advisory Board, the Webster Kiwanis Club and the Webster Chamber of Commerce.

Dave has made our senior citizens his main focus as well as small business owners. He makes monthly visits to the Webster Senior Center to inform our seniors of matters important to them and to help them with any problems or questions they may have. Dave is now also meeting with seniors at Cherry Ridge in both the Independent Living Center and the Assisted Living Center on a monthly basis.

After visiting with seniors and also attending monthly Webster Chamber of Commerce meetings, Dave saw a need in both the small business community and the retirees in Webster. Some retirees wanted to go back to work, mainly on a part time basis, and business owners were in need of help but didn’t need full timers yet. What they needed was and is experienced people with good work ethics. This is exactly what our retirees provide. This opportunity led Dave to start his Jobs for Seniors Program matching people who want to work with employers needing help.

Since 1995 Dave has operated his own realty business and is a member of the Greater Rochester Association of Realtors. Although he is relatively new to public office, Legislator Malta previously served the Webster community on the Town Planning Board for four years and on the Town Conservation Board for two years.

Dave and his wife, Patricia resides at 499 Salt Road in Webster. They have five children and three grandchildren.

Tony LaFountain (R/C)

Monroe County Legislator Tony LaFountain represents the 9th Legislative District, which currently includes the Town of Penfield. Tony serves as the Chairman of the Human Services Committee and as Vice-Chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee.

Tony has a strong background in both public and community service. Prior to being appointed to the County Legislature in January of 2004, he served residents of the Town of Penfield as a Town Board Member for 18 years, Deputy Supervisor for four years, Public Works Chair for ten years and Community Services Chair for eight years. He also served as a liaison to Penfield senior citizens as well as several groups including the Daytons Corner School, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and the Watershed Management. Tony is also a member of the Penfield Lions Club.

In addition to his legislative duties, Tony is a member of the Monroe County Board of Health and is a member of the Crime Stoppers Board of Directors. Tony currently works for the Eastman Kodak Company as the Director of Security and Fire and Emergency Services. On a day-to-day basis, he deals with questions of security and employee safety. This valuable professional experience allows Tony to understand and contribute to County efforts to protect public safety and coordinate emergency services in times of crisis.

Tony earned his Degree in Construction and Civil Technology from Canton College.

Tony and his wife Lyn, parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church, have two daughters, Jennifer and Stacey. Residents of Penfield for the past 27 years, Tony and Lyn reside on 20 Woodside Drive in the Town of Penfield.

Bill Smith (R/C), Majority Leader

In 1995 the people of Pittsford elected Bill to the office of Town Councilman. In that capacity he served as liaison to the Pittsford Environmental Board. Bill took an active role in the Town’s long-range planning and in enacting a key provision of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, which won national attention.

On October 8, 1996, Bill Smith was sworn in as Monroe County Legislator for the 10th county legislative district, which consists of the Town and Village of Pittsford and portions of the Town of East Rochester. On November 4, 1997, the people of Pittsford elected Bill to a full four year term as their county legislator, and re-elected him in 2001.

Bill currently serves on two legislative committees. He is a member of the Recreation and Education Committee and the powerful Ways and Means Committee. Bill also was elected in 2001 to serve as Majority Leader.

As a law student at the University of Virginia, Bill was a founder and director of the Victims’ Rights Advocacy Project, through which law students devoted their time and legal skills to assert the rights of crime victims, work in the local prosecutor’s office and advocate reforms for more effective law enforcement.

Today, Bill belongs to civic and charitable organizations including Historic Pittsford, the Landmark Society of Western New York, The Arts and Cultural Council for Greater Rochester and the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Bill is a member of The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies and the NAACP.

Mike Barker (R)

Monroe County Legislator Mike Barker represents the 11th Legislative District, which includes the Villages of Fairport and East Rochester and a portion of the Town of Perinton.

In this past November’s county elections, Legislator Barker was re-elected to a two-year term after exhibiting strong leadership during his first term, which he was elected to in November of 2004. Prior to becoming a Legislator, Mike served on the Perinton Town Council from 2000 until his appointment to the Legislature on March 26, 2004. He also served as a Trustee in the Village of Fairport from 1992–1999.

In the Legislature, Mike serves as Chairman of the Public Safety Committee and Vice Chairman of the Planning and Economic Development Committee.

In addition to his legislative duties, Mike is lead Social Studies teacher at Johanna Perrin Middle School and a wrestling coach at Fairport High School, for which Legislator Barker has received numerous awards and recognitions. These accolades include 2004 Rochester Area Council of the Social Studies Middle School Teacher of the Year, 2003 Crystal Apple Award Winner as Teacher of the Year at Johanna Perrin Middle School, and 2003 Martha Ross Award Winner presented by the Oral History Association of America. This year also marks the third time in five years that Mike was named a member of “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers,” an honor bestowed upon teachers by the students themselves. He first held this distinction in 2002, and was recognized again in 2005.

Along with holding a seat on the Board of Directors of the Perinton Chamber of Commerce, Legislator Barker is also an active member of many community groups including the Western Erie Canal Heritage Corridor Planning Commission – Monroe County Advisory Committee. He also serves as the Civilian Member of the Jury Board, and is a past member of the Fairport Village Youth Council, the Fairport Village Planning Board and the St. John of Rochester Parish Council.

Mike earned his Master’s Degree from Nazareth College and his Bachelor’s Degree from St. John Fisher College. He is also a graduate of Bishop Kearney High School, of which he is now a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Mike and his wife Jody have four children, Amanda, David, Maggie and Katie.

Jeff Adair (R/C)

Jeff Adair represents the 12th Legislative District in the Monroe County Legislature, which includes the towns of Mendon, Rush, Wheatland, and portions of the Town of Pittsford. Jeff serves as Vice-Chairman of the Transportation Committee and is also a member of the Recreation and Education Committee. Recently, Legislator Adair was elected Vice President of the Monroe County Legislature.

Jeff is no stranger to public service. He served as a Councilman in the Town of Wheatland from 1996 to 2001, followed by his service as the Wheatland Town Supervisor from 2002 to 2004. His accomplishments in Wheatland include creating the Town Economic Development Commission, creating the Town Youth Board, expanding water service, securing transportation for senior citizens, and improving town communications.

In addition to his legislative duties, Jeff currently serves as a member of the Genesee Transportation Council, the Genesee Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council and the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board. He also works at George Weston Bakeries as the Director of Retail Accounts.

Jeff enjoys taking an active role in his community. He is a member of the Scottsville Rotary Club, volunteers at the Genesee Country Village and Museum, and is the creator of the Town of Wheatland Youth Basketball Program.

Jeff attended Monroe Community College and then pursued graduate studies at the Syracuse University Graduate School of Sales and Marketing Management. Jeff and his wife Michele have two daughters, Amanda and Kaitlyn. They reside at 777 Quaker Road in Scottsville.

Jack (John G.) Driscoll (R/C)

Monroe County Legislator Jack Driscoll represents the 13th Legislative District, currently encompassing the majority of the Town of Henrietta. Jack was appointed in 2001 and elected to the position later that year. He brings a great amount of enthusiasm and a fresh outlook to the Legislative body.

Jack is no stranger when it comes to public service and leadership. He was elected by the Henrietta Republican Committee as its Town Leader and served in that capacity until his appointment and election as Henrietta Town Councilman where he served for five years. While serving on the Town Council, Jack was Chairman of the Henrietta Public Works Committee and the Henrietta Land Use Committee. Today, he is Chairman of the Legislature’s powerful Ways and Means Committee where county funding allocations are decided. He is also a member of the Planning and Economic Development and Leadership Committees.

Jack’s influential role in policy making helps him serve his town’s interest by making sure Henrietta is a community with stable property taxes and safe neighborhoods. As a resident for 30 years Jack’s concerns are problems with empty buildings, traffic congestion, uncontrolled development and protecting farm and wetlands.

Legislator Driscoll is a former volunteer firefighter, ambulance medic, advisor to Explorer Scouts and a member of the Ely-Fagan American Legion Post. He is retired from Kodak, where he was employed for 33 years, last serving as Business Manager of the Optical Products Division and President of Kodak’s subsidiary, Baso Precision Optics, Ltd.

Jack and his wife of 43 years, Shannon, have three grown children, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Monroe County Legislator Dan Quatro represents the 15th Legislative District, which consists of portions of Webster, Brighton and Penfield. Dan was appointed to the Legislature on July 8, 2004 and was re-elected that November to a one-year term. Legislator Quatro was re-elected by the people again this past November, this time to a two-year term of service.

In addition to his legislative duties, Legislator Quatro is a Doctor of Chiropractic who has been in private practice for nearly two decades. Dan also serves as the Assistant Medical Director for Musculoskeletal Services for Preferred Care of Rochester and has had a long involvement with the New York State Chiropractic Association, serving as their President from 2000-2004

In addition to his legislative duties, Legislator Quatro is a Doctor of Chiropractic who has been in private practice for nearly two decades. Dan also serves as the Assistant Medical Director for Musculoskeletal Services for Preferred Care of Rochester and has had a long involvement with the New York State Chiropractic Association, serving as their President from 2000–2004.

Dan earned his Doctor of Chiropractic from the New York State Chiropractic College and attended Niagara University. He is also a graduate of McQuaid Jesuit High School. Dan and his wife, Susan reside at 637 Contempri Way in Webster with their two daughters, Abigail and Rachel.

Monroe County Legislator and Democratic Leader Stephanie Aldersley represents the 16th District, which includes the northern half of the town of Irondequoit. Stephanie was first elected to the Monroe County Legislature in 1997. In 2001 she was reelected to the newly created 16th District. Stephanie was voted Democratic Leader in June 2002. She currently serves on the Environment and Public Works Committee and the Ways and Means Committee.

A resident of Irondequoit for over 25 years, Stephanie has been greatly involved in her local community. In 1983, she was named “honorary mayor” by the Citizens for the Preservation of St. Paul Boulevard for leading the effort to stop the widening of St. Paul Boulevard. Stephanie has a very strong interest in public education, twice serving as program chair for the West Irondequoit PTA. In 1986, she was elected to the Irondequoit School Board and subsequently reelected in 1989. Stephanie also served as President of the Monroe County School Boards Association, after being elected to the position in 1993. Throughout the 1990s, as finance chair for the BOCES I Board, Stephanie specialized in educational funding, seeking to relieve the burden of local education on the property tax. Stephanie has also served on New York State Commissioner of Education Richard Mills’ advisory committee.

Stephanie has a deep devotion to community service. As a founding member of ONWATCH, a neighborhood watch group in the southwest corner of Irondequoit, she worked closely with the Irondequoit Crime Prevention Coalition. A Rotarian since 1996, Stephanie has served as the organization’s program coordinator and community service coordinator. She has also remained active in the Summerville Presbyterian Church, and was ordained a church elder in 1997. In recognition of her efforts on behalf of the community, she was named one of 26 “Outstanding Women of Irondequoit” in 1995. This award came as part of the County-wide celebration of the 75th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote.

Stephanie’s professional career has included teaching at the Rochester City School District and Rochester Institute of Technology. She is currently an Associate Professor of English at RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf. She and her husband, Dr. Stephen Aldersley, live at 169 Wisner Road in Irondequoit. They have three grown children.

Jeffery L. McCann took his first oath of office as a Monroe County Legislator on January 2, 2003. McCann was appointed to represent the residents of the 19th Legislative District, which encompasses portions of the Town of Greece. In November of 2003, he was elected by the people to a two-year term, and then re-elected to serve our community for a full four-year term in 2005.

Legislator McCann is Deputy Majority Leader of the Legislature and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the powerful Ways and Means Committee. He is also a member the Public Safety and the Environment and Public Works Committees.

Jeff has nearly two decades of public policy administration and legislative experience, working for the New York State Senate and Assembly, the Monroe County Department of Engineering, the Town of Greece and Monroe County Legislature. A lifelong resident of the Town of Greece, he began his service as a staff member to the late Assemblyman Roger Robach, a longtime Greece representative. Jeff is currently Deputy Supervisor for the Town of Greece.

In November of 2004 Jeff was part of the Greater Rochester Enterprise (GRE) trip to Israel. GRE is a regional economic development organization committed to economic advancement in the region. The mission of the visit was to promote the Rochester area to Israeli enterprise as an ideal locale for businesses interested in expanding to the United States.

Jeff and his wife Kristen have two children, sons Jimmy and David.

Monroe County Legislator Calvin Lee Jr. represents the 25th District, which includes the Rochester downtown area, the Corn Hill area, the South West Neighborhood Area (SWAN), the University of Rochester, and the neighborhoods bordering the Genesee River in southern Rochester. Calvin was appointed to the Legislature in May 2001 to fill a vacancy due to the untimely death of Legislator Willie Lightfoot. He then was subsequently elected to a four-year term in 2001. Calvin currently serves on the Public Safety and the Transportation Committees of the Legislature.

Calvin is involved with many groups in the Southwest area in Rochester. He is a member of the Sector 4 City Planning process and a Board Member of Sector 4 CDC, the Community Information Center, and the Southwest Common Council. He sits on the Education Committee, Youth and Recreation Committee and Business and Economic Development Committee of the Southwest Common Council. As a member of the Southwest Men’s Club, Calvin mentors young men on life skills and employment search.

Calvin graduated from Charlotte High School and attended St. John Fisher College and Rochester Institute of Technology. He was selected to the All Greater Rochester Football First Team in 1973 and 1974. Professionally, he has owned and operated a small business in his district. Calvin also worked for E.L. Lawson Trucking Co. and the Xerox Corporation. Currently Calvin is employed at the Southwest Rochester Early Enhancement Program (REEP) as the Coordinator of Outreach.

Monroe County Legislator Carla Palumbo represents the 28th District, which includes the Lyell-Otis, Jay-Orchard, Dutchtown, Edgerton and Maplewood neighborhoods of northwest Rochester. Carla was first elected to the Monroe County Legislature in 2001, to a four-year term. She currently serves on the Public Safety Committee and is the Ranking Democrat on the Human Services Committee.

Carla is a lifelong Rochester resident who is dedicated to public service and has a strong commitment to her community. She has always worked to ensure that all members of the community have an equal voice, and an equal opportunity for economic and personal success. She is a member of various community boards, including the City of Rochester’s Neighbors Building Neighborhoods program, the Sector 3 Planning Committee, and the Ibero-American Action League. She is Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Women in the Law, and former Chair of the County Legislature’s Advisory Committee on Women’s Issues.

A well-respected attorney in Monroe County, Carla has distinguished herself as a lawyer dedicated to providing high-quality direct civil legal services to Monroe County residents. She has developed innovative programs to address a myriad of legal issues and has brought thousands of dollars of outside funding into the community. She is well known for her expertise in the representation of victims of domestic violence. Carla has received public recognition for her dedication and service. In 1999, she won the New York State Bar Association’s Public Interest Law Award, and in 2000, the YWCA’s Women First Award.

Carla attended SUNY Albany and graduated with a degree in Spanish Education. She is fluent in Spanish and Italian. She attended Syracuse Law School and is currently director of the Civil Division of the Legal Aid Society of Rochester.

Monroe County Legislator Jose Cruz represents the 29th District, which includes the northeast area of the City of Rochester north of Avenue D and west of Culver Road. Jose was first elected to the Monroe County Legislature in 1999. In 2001 he was re-elected to a four-year term. He currently serves on the Human Services and Agenda Charter Committees.

Jose has deep roots in the 29th District and years of service to the community he represents. Jose graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School and Monroe Community College. As student leader, Jose was a founder of the Puerto Rican Youth Development and Resource Center, Inc. (PRYD). He also was active with the Model Cities Programs of the City of Rochester as well as the Ibero American Action League, Action for a Better Community (ABC) and many other local social organizations. Jose is currently on the Boards of Directors of the Ibero American Investment Corporation, the Discovery Huther Doyle, and the Community Micro-enterprise Center.

Professionally, Jose owned and operated a business in the district he now represents. He also has served as Director of Community Development for the Ibero-American Action League and Chief Executive Officer of the Worker Ownership Resource Center, which provided training and technical assistance to low income persons establishing their own businesses. Currently, Jose is a Loan Officer for Fleet Bank.

Jose and his wife, Maria Diaz Godreau, live on Northland Avenue in northeast Rochester. They have four children: Liana, Ariel, Marcos, Marielee.
