Brooks Launches New Prescription Discount Program For Monroe County Residents

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks launched the new Monroe County Prescription Discount Program, a County-sponsored initiative that helps local residents save money on the cost of prescription drugs. A testament to Brooks’ steadfast commitment to fiscal responsibility, it costs nothing for participants or Monroe County taxpayers.
“Monroe County is proud to offer the Monroe County Prescription Discount Program, an exciting new initiative that helps local residents maintain a healthy lifestyle, all while holding on to more of their hard earned money,” said Brooks. “The Monroe County Prescription Discount Card – administered by local company ProAct, Inc. – is a free tool for taxpayers that provides discount savings on prescription drugs. Best of all, it costs nothing for Monroe County or local taxpayers. All residents need to do is bring the card with them to their pharmacy, and let the savings begin!”
The Monroe County Prescription Discount Program provides savings on the purchase of prescription drugs for the uninsured and underinsured. It is free and open to all Monroe County residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage. Participants save an average of 45% percent and all prescription medications are covered, with additional savings available on Vision, Lasik, and Hearing services. The program is accepted by most pharmacies locally and over 55,000 participating pharmacies nationwide.
Monroe County Prescription Discount Cards will be mailed to thousands of County residents this week. ProAct, Inc. has covered all printing and postage costs associated with mailing the cards. Additionally, 14,000 residents who were already enrolled in Monroe County’s Senior Prescription Discount Plan will receive a letter informing them that ProAct, Inc. is the program’s new administrator. Any resident that does not receive a card, but would like to join the program, should contact ProAct at 1-877-776-2285, visit www.nyrxdiscountcard.com, or click on the ProAct icon at www.monroecounty.gov. Cards will also be available at participating local pharmacies.
“We are excited to be working with County Executive Maggie Brooks, Monroe County, and all of its various Departments to help reduce prescription drug costs for Monroe County taxpayers,” said ProAct, Inc. President Dave Warner. “There are no enrollment forms to fill out, no membership fees, no income requirements, no restrictions on use, and most importantly, no cost to participants.”
ProAct, Inc. is a division of Kinney Drugs, Inc. ProAct administers its Prescription Discount Card Program in 30 counties across New York State and is endorsed by the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC).
