Springtime is the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy our wonderful Monroe County Parks! With so much to see, do and experience… what are you waiting for?

12,000 Acres of Beauty and Recreation

Hand-feed chickadees, walk on a floating boardwalk over wetlands, swim on a guarded beach, visit exotic animals, visit a botanical garden, cast a fishing line, visit a working farm, ride a menagerie carousel, have a picnic, get married, watch a movie outside at night, play a round of golf, enjoy a Shakespeare performance, listen to an outdoor concert, fly a kite, take a hike, horseback ride, fly a model airplane, play bocce—all in our county parks!

You can enjoy all of these and many more activities in our 21 Monroe County Parks’ nearly 12,000 acres of land. Located throughout the county, our parks provide residents and visitors with a variety of leisure activities.

How Do I . . .

Find a designated sledding area at one of the Parks?

The Monroe County Parks Department has designated seven (7) areas for sledding, throughout the Parks System. Sledding is strictly prohibited in any other non-designated areas of the Parks.

Designated Sledding Areas are, as follows:

  • Black Creek Park (behind Woodside Lodge)
  • Ellison Park (off Landing Road, by the Disc Golf Course)
  • Mendon Ponds Park (across from the Cavalry House Lodge, on Douglas Road)
  • Mendon Ponds Park (next to the East and West Lodges, on Canfield Road)
  • Northampton Park (across the street from the Ski Lodge, on Hubble Road)
  • Powdermills Park (by the North and South Lodges)
  • Webster Park (next to the Parkview Lodge, off Holt Road)

Rent a field at one of the parks?

A variety of playing fields are available to rent in our County Parks.  Download the Parks Department Field Use Application (18k PDF). Any questions - please email our office.

Get a permit for a special event?

A special event is any out-of-the ordinary park use, event or request. You will need a Health Department Certification (20k PDF) for any food vendors.

Contact the Temporary Food Permit Office of the Health Department at 585 753-8081. Download the Parks Department Special Use Application (344k PDF). You can email your questions to the Parks Department.

You may have alcohol in a lodge or shelter you have rented with a permit, to download the Monroe County Alcohol Policy (100k PDF).

Lamberton Conservatory

The Lamberton Conservatory (180 Reservoir Avenue) is a unique indoor botanical garden that offers gorgeous flowers all year round. The varied sights make an ideal background for wedding pictures. The recently installed kitchen combined with the historical value of the Conservatory make it the perfect spot for a ceremony or small reception.

Lilac Arches

This large outdoor space, located in Highland Park (off Highland Avenue) includes beautiful lilac colored arches, brick pathways and flowering trees in an open air setting. This space will accommodate larger groups (up to 200), for pictures or a reception. Electricity, water and flush toilets are available.

Sunken Garden

This historic location is reserved exclusively for photographs. The unique greenery and exquisite architecture provide a stunning background. The Sunken Garden is located behind the Warner Castle, in Highland Park (off Reservoir Avenue).
