Educating Citizens for Public Disaster
Project Prepare! was launched by the Monroe County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) on November 7, 2003 as a public alerting and emergency preparedness initiative. This website provides information and links to disaster education, personal readiness, and current events related to community-wide emergencies.
The primary function of Project Prepare! is to provide a centralized repository of emergency preparedness knowledge to the citizens of Monroe County. The Project Prepare! web site provides information on disasters of all kinds, from floods, fire and extreme cold to terrorist attacks. The site has been designed to service every member of the community, including the elderly, people with disabilities and special needs, children, animals and pets. This comprehensive knowledge source ensures all members of our community the ability to prepare for any emergency.
How To Be Prepared
Personal Preparations in case of emergency start at home with a careful evaluation of your living environment and supplies in case of emergency. Look around your home and evaluate:
- Could I survive the next ice storm?
- Do I have extra batteries or flashlights?
- Do I need a generator?
- What is my evacuation plan, where will meet?
- How can I educate my children?
The Project Prepare initiative is a collaborative effort to provide citizens of Monroe County a resource to find more information to help prepare in your personal life as well as finding information during an emergency.
How Can I Get Involved?
Become involved in your community and learn more about helping your neighbors be more prepared. There are many levels of involvement, both formal and informal, that are available for citizens of this community.
- What can I do to help my elderly neighbor?
- Should I give blood regularily?
- Become a volunteer with the local Fire Department.
The Project Prepare initiative provides citizens educational resources to help start the process for learning and taking the next step towards being an involved and informed citizen.
