Bureaus of Monroe County Sheriff's Office
When people think about the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, they most often think of the road patrol. But the Sheriff’s Office includes four bureaus that perform a wide variety of duties. Find out more by clicking on the links below.
Civil Bureau
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office Civil Bureau is the sole entity in Monroe County that has jurisdiction in all Monroe County Courts. As such, we have statutory authority to act as the enforcement officer for all court within the County of Monroe. Our responsibilities fall within two distinct areas; the Service of Process and Enforcement.
Court Security Bureau
The Court Security Bureau, a division of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, consists of Deputy Sheriffs whose responsibilities range from weapons screening and maintaining courtroom decorum to providing essential public safety and law enforcement services.
Jail Bureau
The Jail Bureau of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office currently operates three facilities: a pre-trial detention facility that houses approximately 1,000 inmates in downtown Rochester, a sentenced facility in suburban Brighton, New York, that houses 475 sentenced inmates, and a regional forensic unit at the Rochester Psychiatric Center.
Police Bureau
The primary law enforcement responsibilities of the Police Bureau are the road patrol and criminal investigations. The bureau also provides support functions and specialized police activities in other areas including the county parks, at the Greater Rochester International Airport, and on area waterways.
