The Community Asset Partner Network began in 1999 to support school-community partnerships that were planning to develop asset-building initiatives in their communities. This is part of the larger community-wide effort that surveyed middle school students countywide through the Monroe County Health Department to determine the number of assets that youth in our community have. Many school districts decided to survey a larger population of their students so they could have more community specific data. Communities have used the asset data as a mobilizing tool to engage community residents in supporting youth and becoming more involved in youth-adult partnership opportunities. The Community Asset Partner Network currently is comprised of 18 local community initiatives and several youth service agencies/groups.

Family Celebration of Community Assets

The Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau will sponsor the eighth annual Family Celebration of Community Assets at the Seneca Park Zoo on Saturday, September 30, 2006. From June through September, every Community’s Asset Coordinator will submit names of “Asset Builders,” (click on "Asset Builders" to access the recognition form) individuals and/or groups, to be recognized for their outstanding asset building efforts. Everyone nominated will receive a certificate at this event.

We are requesting that community and school members assist the Community Asset Partner Network Coordinators to identify people for recognition. The theme for the 2005 Community Asset Partner Network Breakfast was "Capture Asset Moments."  Each community that participates in the Asset Initiative presented successful past asset-building programs to the group.  Nancy Tellet-Royce, Community Liason for the Search Intstitute, shared remarks on the impact of asset-building initiatives on communities.
