Dinolfo Announces DMV Saturdays
Thu, May 29 2008
Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo announced that the Greece DMV office will open on the last Saturday of every month, beginning this Saturday, May 31. These "DMV Saturdays" are an expansion of the Clerk's Office "Renew Monroe!" program that encourages residents to handle their DMV and Passport business locally. The Greece DMV office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during DMV Saturdays.
"DMV Saturdays continues my commitment to allow customers to do business with the DMV when and where it's most convenient. Combined with our evening hours and mobile units, local taxpayers have more options than ever to 'Renew Monroe!' and keep their money working at home," said Dinolfo.
Since launching Renew Monroe! in 2006, customers kept over $500,000 locally by using DMV or Passport services offered by the County Clerk's Office. Monroe County keeps 12.7% of the revenue from DMV transactions processed in local offices. However, the County receives no revenue from transactions processed online or mailed to the State DMV. Dinolfo has partnered with her fellow County Clerks in the region to lobby the State DMV to lift the restriction that prevents counties from offering their own online and mail-in DMV services.
"Keeping our money working at home instead of in Albany or Washington is the goal of 'Renew Monroe!'," said Dinolfo. "DMV Saturdays are another step in this important effort. I hope that our customers will continue to use these services and partner with us to help keep our taxes in check."
All DMV services, other than commercial driver's licenses, are available during DMV Saturdays. However, as is standard DMV practice, learner permit tests will only be administered until an hour before closing, 11:30 a.m. Only the Greece DMV office will open during DMV Saturdays.
