Dinolfo Announces New, Expanded Non-Stop Southwest Flights To Key Florida Destinations

Monroe County Executive Chery Dinolfo announced that Southwest Airlines has added new seasonal non-stop flights to Ft. Lauderdale (FLL), Florida on select Saturdays for January and February 2020 from the Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC).

Southwest also announced continuation of the seasonal, non-stop service on select Saturdays to Ft. Myers, Florida (RSW) for January and February 2020. This marks the third consecutive winter the carrier is offering this non-stop service. In the past, ROC – RSW non-stops were offered on three select Saturdays. This coming winter, the ROC-RSW service is being expanded to eight select Saturdays; five more select Saturday flights as compared to last year.

“Our recently-completed ROC renovation project was designed to make our airport a top-tier choice for travel to and from Monroe County, and major airlines are certainly taking notice,” said Dinolfo. “Both Ft. Lauderdale and Ft. Myers are high-demand destinations and these direct flights are sure to be popular choices for snowbirds and vacationing families alike. I thank Southwest for its commitment to our airport and I encourage travelers to book their tickets now, before they’re gone!”

Southwest will be using their 737-700 aircraft for the new non-stop service from ROC to Ft. Myers (RSW) and ROC to Ft. Lauderdale (FLL). This means over 2,200 more non-stop seats this winter for area snowbirds traveling to these two Florida markets alone.

The new Ft. Lauderdale non-stops and increased Ft. Myers non-stops are in addition to ROC non-stop service offered daily to Orlando (MCO) and ROC non-stop service offered on the weekends to Tampa (TPA), Florida. Strong passenger support of these non-stop flights demonstrates that our community can support additional non-stop service in the future.
