Dinolfo Announces 2018 Season of Free Movies in our Monroe County Parks

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo today announced the schedule for the County’s “Movies in the Parks” 2018 Summer Season. This year, the Monroe County Department of Parks will host two fun evenings, featuring top motion pictures at Ontario Beach Park and the Highland Park Bowl.

“Our movie nights offer hardworking families the opportunity to enjoy big-screen hit motion pictures, under the stars, in two of our wonderful County Parks,” said County Executive Dinolfo. “The 2018 season will open with a classic summertime favorite, ‘Jaws,’ at Ontario Beach Park and wrap-up at the Highland Park Bowl with the latest installment in the most successful motion picture franchise of all time, ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi.’ Best of all, each of our movies is open to the public and will be shown free of charge.

MOVIE NIGHT AT THE BEACH features a FREE outdoor screening of JAWS (1975 PG) at Monroe County’s Ontario Beach Park on SATURDAY evening June 23rd… RAIN or SHINE. The film will be projected on a large screen on the Performance Gazeebo. In case of rain, the festivities will be moved inside to the second floor of the Roger Robach Community Center, located at the Park. Pre-show fun starts at 8:30 pm, featuring movie trivia, prizes and… new this year… a “Shark Talk” by the Seneca Park Zoo’s James Weinpress. The film will begin at Dark… around 9:00 p.m. Concessions are available for purchase

MOVIE NIGHT AT THE BOWL features a FREE outdoor screening of STAR WARS: The Last Jedi (2017 PG-13) at the Highland Park Bowl on SATURDAY evening, July 28th. Pre-show fun starts at 7:00 pm with a FREE concert performance by the band JAVA! Movie trivia, with prizes, follows at 8:30 pm. The film will begin at Dark… around 9:00 p.m. Concessions are available for purchase.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming back one of our favorite local bands, JAVA, for a free pre-movie concert at the Highland Bowl on July 28th,” said Director of Parks & Seneca Park Zoo Larry Staub. “We’re also very excited to have Zoo Keeper and marine life specialist James Weinpress, from the Seneca Park Zoo, lined-up to present an informative ‘Shark Talk’ prior to our screening of JAWS at Ontario Beach Park on June 23rd! Sharks are such fascinating species, with an undeserved bad reputation. They play a vital role in top-down maintenance of ocean ecosystems around the world. Many sharks are threatened with extinction, so this will be a great opportunity to learn more about them and what we can do to help save these species before it’s too late!”
