Dinolfo Announces Grand Opening of Ventilator and Pediatric Units at Monroe Community Hospital

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo joined Monroe Community Hospital Executive Health Director Gene Larrabee and Strong Memorial Hospital Chief Operating Officer Kathleen Parinello to host the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the new Ventilator and Pediatric Units at Monroe Community Hospital (MCH).

“Monroe Community Hospital is a local treasure, providing quality, compassionate care to hundreds of residents as the largest skilled nursing facility in Upstate New York,” said Dinolfo. “We continue to invest in and enhance the technologies available at MCH to help the hospital best serve its residents and support stronger families here. The addition of these specialized new units promises to expand the hospital’s capacity and capability, all while creating skilled nursing jobs, and I thank URMC for their partnership.”

Beginning in 2016, MCH sought approval to renovate and design a space to meet the growing need for ventilator and pediatric beds. In December of 2017, MCH received approval from the New York State Department of Health to proceed with construction of a 20-bed Ventilator Unit and a 5-bed Pediatric Unit that has the capacity for pediatric-specific vents. In the summer of 2018, Monroe County entered into a partnership with UR Medicine to help support operation of the new units. Later this month, the Vent Unit will welcome its first residents.

“URMC and all of our affiliates are proud to partner with Monroe Community Hospital to assemble this much needed asset in our community,” said Strong Memorial Hospital Chief Operating Officer Kathleen Parinello. “By coming together, we are working to create a bright future for healthcare in Rochester, Monroe County and our entire region.”

New resident admissions to these units will begin in mid-September and are open to anyone who medically qualifies, regardless of their current provider system.

Additionally, full-time and per-diem Licensed Nursing positions are still available. Interested RN's and LPNs can send their resumes to Kim_ogradyjones@urmc.rochester.edu.
