Dinolfo Announces Swimming at Ontario Beach is Now Open for 2018

County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo announced that public swimming at Ontario Beach Park, located in Rochester’s Charlotte Neighborhood, is now open for the 2018 Season.

“Here in Monroe County, summer officially kicks-off with the opening of swimming at Ontario Beach Park,” said County Executive Dinolfo. “With school out, family members taking time off from work and out-of-town visitors heading to our community, the sandy shore and cooling waters of Lake Ontario become a top destination for fun in the sun. This wonderful beach, operated by our Monroe County Department of Parks, is a top family-friendly attraction that we are proud to offer free of charge.”

The Monroe County lifeguard staff, under the leadership of Assistant Director of Parks Lisa Polito Nicolay, are now on duty and swimming will be permitted at Ontario Beach Park each day, FREE of charge, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Swimming is only allowed when lifeguards are on duty.

As Lake Ontario is a large natural body of water, swimming will only be permitted when conditions and water quality are favorable. A recorded telephone message will be updated daily at (585) 753-5887 with information on beach conditions and whether swimming will be permitted or not. It is important to note that even if swimming is not permitted, the sandy beach at the park will remain open for recreational use.

“We’re open for swimming, the sand is perfectly groomed, our full complement of lifeguards are on duty and people from all over our community will be having a wonderful time at Ontario Beach Park, throughout the season,” said Director of Parks & Seneca Park Zoo Larry Staub. “It’s shaping-up to be one of our best summers in years!”

The 2018 Swimming Season at Ontario Beach Park is scheduled to run through Labor Day, September 3rd.
