Dinolfo Announces ROC Airport Receives Honorable Mention for Coveted Award

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo announced that the Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) was honored in Buffalo at the 52nd Northeast Chapter (NEC) of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) International Aviation Snow Symposium. ROC received an Honorable Mention for small commercial airports for the Balchen/Post Award in recognition of the airport’s outstanding performance in snow and ice control.

“This award is a true testament to the level of dedication and professionalism demonstrated by our Monroe County Airfield Operations Employees,” said Dinolfo. “Our community experiences significant winter weather and our ROC Airport team is successful in keeping the runways and taxiways operating safely during inclement weather.”

The Balchen/Post Awards are presented annually by AAAE to the “snow crews” of airports in the Snow Belt region for their dedicated efforts in maintaining safe and operational conditions during the winter season.

Applications for the awards are submitted by an airport’s local workforce and are accompanied by recommendations from travelers, airlines, pilots, general aviation professionals and others. All categories of airports (commercial, general aviation and military) throughout the United States and Canada compete for the awards.

This is the fifth time ROC has been honored with a Balchen/Post Award acknowledgement. In the 36 years that the awards have been presented, ROC has been a prior recipient in 1997-98, 1998-99, 2003-04 and 2009-2010.
