Brooks Announces Annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced residents can once again recycle their Christmas trees, free of charge, at several locations across the County beginning right after Christmas.  Most drop-off locations will accept trees through the end of January 2014.

Zoo To Host Orangutan Naming Contest

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced details of a public naming contest for the Zoo’s five-month-old female orangutan. The baby was born on April 24 at the Seneca Park Zoo. Kumang, the Zoo’s 35-year-old matriarch Bornean orangutan, is the baby’s mother. Denda, a 10-year-old who joined the Zoo family in April 2011, is the baby’s father. The pair lives in the Zoo’s Main Building with Dara, Kumang’s daughter.

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that local residents have collectively saved over $10,000,000 through the Monroe County Prescription Discount Program, a County-sponsored initiative that helps individuals and families save money on the cost of prescription drugs. The program, a testament to Brooks’ steadfast commitment to fiscal responsibility, was launched in August of 2010 and costs nothing for participants or Monroe County taxpayers.

BROOKS ANNOUNCES NAMING CONTEST RESULTS FOR LION CUBS

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks joined officials from the Seneca Park Zoo and Seneca Park Zoo Society for some very exciting lion news. First, the names Tiberius and Savannah were chosen for the pair of cubs born at the Zoo on March 6 to first-time parents Asha and Chester. Nearly 3,000 names were submitted by the community during the naming contest, which was held from May 28, 2013, through June 30, 2013.

This year will be the carousel’s 108th continuous season at the Park, where it first opened in 1905. Brooks Announces Hazardous Household Waste And Electronics Collection On County's Eastside

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that the County’s Department of Environmental Services (DES) and the towns of Perinton and Pittsford as well as the Villages of Pittsford, East Rochester and Fairport have teamed up to hold a free household hazardous waste (HHW), paper shredding and electronics collection day on Saturday, May 18th from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Perinton Highway Garage at 100 Cobbs Lane. Appointments are required for the HHW collection, but are not needed for recycling electronics.

Brooks Selects Former City Police Chief to Serve as Public Safety Director

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced her appointment of David T. Moore to the position of Monroe County Public Safety Director. Moore is best known locally for his service as Rochester Police Chief under former Mayor Bob Duffy, as well as his tenure as Director of the City’s Office of Public Integrity. His appointment follows the retirement of Steve Bowman, who had served as Monroe County Public Safety Director since 2004.

Brooks Announces Birth of Two Lion Cubs At Seneca Park Zoo

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks welcomed two lion cubs born on March 7 at the Seneca Park Zoo and will soon reside in the A Step Into Africa Exhibit. The cubs, one male and one female, born to first-time parents Asha and Chester who have lived at the Zoo since the lion exhibit opened last year. Their initial litter numbered four cubs, two of which failed to thrive and did not live past the first two weeks.
