Wearing a face covering when we’re in public and can’t maintain a safe distance of at least six feet from others is an important part of making sure our region can continue reopening as part of NY Forward. Monroe County provided more than 3 million masks to residents in early May. Here are instructions for caring for those masks.

How to put your mask on:
- Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water first, or use hand sanitizer.
- The blue side of the mask goes on the outside.
- The stiff edge of the mask goes on the top.
- Grab the ear loops and place a loop around each ear.
- Pull the top over your nose and pinch the stiff edge to fit to the shape of your nose.
- Pull the bottom of the mask over your mouth and chin.
How to take your mask off:
- Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water first, or use hand sanitizer.
- Hold both ear loops and gently remove the mask.
- Wash your hands again.
Use and care of your mask:
- With light use, you can wear your mask for up to one week.
- If your mask gets dirty or wet, stop using it right away.
- Discard of your used mask with your regular household trash.
