Monroe County Clerk Adam Bello Reacts to Proposed Reappointments of Dozens of Officials

Tue, Jun 13 2017

ROCHESTER – Monroe County Clerk Adam Bello has released the following statement in reaction to the proposed reappointment of 38 board members and county department heads announced at approximately 4:45 p.m. yesterday, as urgent matters to be considered by the County Legislature at its meeting tonight.

These reappointments were proposed following the discovery that the appointees had not filed their oaths of office, resulting in the cancellation of several boards and commissions’ meetings and the postponement of public business for several weeks.

“The filing of oaths of office is a serious issue, which is why last week I proposed a plan to ensure oaths are filed pursuant to NYS law. Protecting taxpayers and following procedures so county government can continue to function, and boards are independent of politics, is critically important to serving the needs of our community.

I'm glad the county has reversed course, and now realizes filing oaths of office is not a ‘nothingburger,’ but that running county government is serious business, and dismissing legitimate issues is not in the interest of good government.”
