MCSO Proposal to the Monroe County Legislature Public Safety Committee
In June 2020, NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an Executive Order requiring all local government entities with a police agency to perform a comprehensive review of current police force deployments, strategies, policies, procedures and practices. All municipalities with police departments in New York State must adopt a plan for reform and reinvention by April 1, 2021. Guidance shared with municipalities must address policing functions, standards, and strategies; fostering community-oriented leadership, culture, and accountability; and recruiting and supporting excellent and diverse personnel.
