The 5,000 feet of Lake Ontario waterfront at Durand-Eastman Park creates a relaxing summer environment, while supporting a winter challenge for cross-country skiers. Its steep wooded slopes, valleys, scenic vistas, small lakes, spring flowering trees and spectacular fall foliage colors add to this park’s exceptional beauty. Durand-Eastman Park has eight shelters, a playground and a golf course.

Location and Directions

Durand-Eastman Park is located on the shore of Lake Ontario in the northernmost section of the City of Rochester near the Irondequoit border.

History

Originally the estate of Dr. Henry Durand, the park was a gift to the City of Rochester by Dr. Durand and George Eastman, who acquired some adjacent lands to increase its size to 965 acres.

Rules and Regulations

Durand-Eastman Park is open daily 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. and has a carry in-carry out rule, which means you must take all your garbage with you for disposal after leaving the park. Glass is not allowed. All pets must be leashed and you are responsible for cleaning up after them.

Park Hours

April 1st until October 31st, the park is open everyday from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. Shelters are available to rent from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.

Restrooms

In Durand-Eastman Park there are three restroom facilities: one near the Sunset Shelter, another one is located between the Acorn and Maple Shelters, and at the end of Log Cabin Road. See the park map for specific locations.

Trails

Before heading out to Durand-Eastman Park print the map. The color coded hiking trails and additional details will keep you on the right track.

The Durand Lake Trail is a 1.2 mile walk that has a very strong wilderness feel to it. There are sections of corduroy (log paths) along the southern part of the trail.

The Trott Lake Trail is a .5 mile walk over small rolling hills. Along the path you will see the area that used to be Dr. Henry S. Durand’s old campground where there are also unusual trees which are labeled.

The Eastman Lake Trail is a 1.5 mile walk that is spectacular for any season. This trail follows along the lake where you can see waterfowl and warblers, especially during migration seasons.
