Runaway and Homeless Youth Services

Services Listing

The Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau has been the lead planner and founder for Runaway and Homeless Services in Monroe County since 1979. Through the continued commitment and collaboration of the Runaway and Homeless youth service provider agencies, our community offers a range of services to runaway and homeless youth which include crisis counseling, emergency shelter, on-going case management and transitional housing.

Important Resources:
National Network for Youth
Empire State Coalition

The emergency services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all youth in Monroe County up to 21 years of age. Runaway and Homeless Services are provided in accordance with the 1978 and 1986 NYS Runaway and Homeless Legislation in order for youth to access safe, voluntary shelter and supportive services. Youth may access these services on their own, with or without parental permission, with no fee.

Each service will address the youth’s basic needs (food, shelter, clothing, and access to health care) as well as supportive counseling services in an attempt to resolve the problems that caused the youth to run away. If returning home is not an option, staff will work with the youth in finding a safe alternative.
