Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced that a new affordable housing development in the Village of Honeoye Falls is officially moving forward. Joining Brooks for the announcement was Richard Milne, Honeoye Falls Village Mayor; Timothy D. Fournier, President & CEO of Conifer Realty, LLC; A. Gidget Hopf, Ed.D, President and CEO of the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) – Goodwill Industries
“Affordable housing is critical to the economic vitality and quality of life in our community,” said Brooks. “In addition to providing needed affordable housing, this development will create construction jobs and benefit working families. Best of all, by leveraging state and federal resources, this project comes at no cost to County taxpayers.”
Funding secured from the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal played a critical role in the project’s development, with the state providing $1.2 million in funding for the project. In addition to the state’s funds, Monroe County provided a $300,000 low-interest loan through the County’s HOME program and will use $50,000 of its federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to make off-site improvements near the development.
A joint venture of Conifer Realty, LLC and ABVI – Goodwill, Seneca Place will be a 40-unit family apartment development located at 300 Pine Trail in the Village of Honeoye Falls. The development will consist of two residential two-story buildings, a 32-unit building and an eight-unit building. The anticipated groundbreaking is spring 2007.
“This project is a great example of intergovernmental cooperation at its best,” said Milne. “Thanks to the collaboration between the County, the Village and our private partners, we were able to bring this project to fruition.”
"This exciting project allows ABVI-Goodwill to partner with a premier housing corporation to expand and improve housing opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired," said President & CEO Hopf. "We are also proud of the role we will have in ensuring that these housing units are accessible and amenable for people who are blind or have other visual impairments."
Conifer Realty currently manages over 8,000 housing units throughout New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Ohio. President & CEO Fournier said, “I would like to thank Dr. Hopf for her partnership as well as County Executive Brooks, Mayor Milne, and all of our other project partners for their assistance in making this development a reality. We have had many great housing successes here in Monroe County and we look forward to bringing state-of-the-art affordable housing to families in Honeoye Falls.”
