Brooks Announces National Senior Games Awarded to Monroe County

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks today announced that Monroe County will
host the National Senior Games Championship and Euflexxa Hockey Championship in
2010, 2011, and 2012. The event is produced by the Monroe County Sports
Commission.
The National Senior Games Association (NSGA) is a non-profit member of the United
States Olympic Committee (USOC) dedicated to motivating senior men and women to
lead a healthy lifestyle through the senior games movement. Monroe County will be
the host for the Fall Championship. The NSGA governs the Summer National Senior
Games, which is the largest multi-sport event in the world for seniors.
“Monroe County is recognized as one of the premier sports destinations in the country
and sports play a vital role in our community’s economic vitality and quality of life,” said
Brooks. “We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to host an event of this
magnitude and benefit from the positive impact the Games will have on our local economy
over the next three years.”
The Monroe County Sports Commission entered a bid to host the National Senior
Games Championship and Euflexxa Hockey Championship in 2010 and 2012. After
winning the bid to host, the NSGA decided to also award the 2011 events to Monroe
County. Past Games have been held in major cities such as Orlando, Tucson, San
Antonio, and this year in San Francisco.
“We are beyond excited to showcase our community on a national stage and look forward
to welcoming the thousands of talented athletes from across the country, as well as their
family and friends who will visit our area to cheer them on,” concluded Brooks.
The four day Games will be held September 9-12, 2010, and will include: hockey, team
bowling, pickleball, power lifting, billiards, and golf. Over 2,000 athletes are expected
to compete each year.
The Monroe County Sports Commission (MCSC) is a private, non-profit corporation.
MCSC’s goal is to bring organized sporting events of all kinds, for all ages, to the
Greater Rochester area. MCSC works to attract amateur championships, sportsrelated
clinics and conventions to increase the economic vitality of the community.
