Brooks Announces New Viewing Schedule For Zoo’s Lion Cubs
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced the Seneca Park Zoo’s two lion cubs will now be available for public viewing twice daily. The cubs will make appearances from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., beginning on Monday, July 8.
“Since their birth in March, the new lion cubs have received an outpouring of support from hundreds of children and families across Monroe County and beyond,” said Brooks. “I am thrilled to announce these additional viewing times as our brother and sister cubs continue to acclimate to their new surroundings. I encourage everyone to come welcome the lion cubs to their new home as soon as they get a chance.”
The cubs, one male and one female, were born to first-time parents Asha and Chester, and reside in the Zoo’s A Step Into Africa Exhibit. The timing of when the cubs will be introduced to the adults is unknown. Until further notice, the cubs and adults will alternate being on exhibit.
Additionally, the lion cub naming contest concluded on June 30th. Winning names will be announced later this month.
The Zoo’s “Open Late Tuesdays” are underway. This summer, on Tuesday evenings through August 27th, the Zoo will be offering extended hours. Admission gates will be open on those Tuesdays until 7:00 p.m. and patrons will be able to stay on Zoo grounds until 8:00 p.m. Regular admission fees will apply.
Visitors should note that Zoo ticket booths are open from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on all days other than “Open Late Tuesdays” through October 31st, although guests are permitted to stay on-site until 5:00 p.m.
