The Monroe County Board of Elections is committed to providing an accessible voting experience for all registered voters. Explore the ways we provide accessible voting below.
Accessible Polling Places
The Board of Elections ensures that each polling place is ADA accessible throughout the duration of every election event. Every polling place is routinely evaluated to comply with the latest ADA accessibility guidelines. If needed, the Board supplies the temporary accessibility equipment, ranging from mats and cones, to complicated ramping systems, to bring each polling place into ADA compliance.
Accessible Voting Machines
Every voting machine is ADA accessible. Click here to learn more about our voting machines accessibility features.

Registered voters may apply for an Absentee Ballot if they are unable to appear at the polls due to temporary or permanent disability. To apply for an absentee ballot, click here.
Early Voting
Early Voting offers registered voters multiple opportunities to cast their vote before Election Day, and is an excellent accommodation for some voters with specific ADA accessibility requirements.
Early Vote by Mail
Early Vote by Mail is another voting option allows any registered voter to request to cast their ballot early by mail, making it a popular accessible voting choice.
Accessible Ballot Application (For Print Disabilities)
Voters who have a print disability may apply for a ballot with accessible features by using the Online Accessible Ballot Application. A print disability is any disability that interferes with the effective reading, writing, or use of printed material. Print disabilities include blindness, low vision, dyslexia, dysgraphia, learning disabilities, and physical disabilities that limit writing abilities. Eligible voters with disabilities who request an accessible ballot can use their personal adaptive technology to mark and print their absentee ballot from their home. Voters using the accessible ballot system are responsible for printing their ballot.
Interpreters/Language Access
ASL Interpreters
The Monroe County Board of Elections coordinates with the NYS Board of Elections to staff ASL interpreters at the appropriate polling places to best serve Monroe County’s deaf voters.
Language Access Devices (LADs)
Every polling place is equipped with a Language Access Device, which voters may use to connect with live interpreters for translation of over 350 languages, including ASL.
