Brooks Brings The “BIG Rib Bbq & Blues Fest” Back To Highland Park This Weekend

County Executive Maggie Brooks is pleased to announce that Monroe County will again host the Big Rib Bar-B-Que & Blues Fest at the Highland Park Festival Site from Thursday, July 11th through Sunday, July 14th. Now in its seventh year, this event has become one of our community’s hottest summer-time festivals.

"Working with Jeff Springut and Rochester Events, we are thrilled to host this fun-filled festival of great food and exceptional music at Monroe County’s Highland Park for the seventh-year-in-a-row,” said Brooks. “The Rib Bar-B-Que & Blues Fest has become a staple event of the summer for Monroe County residents and visitors alike.  This year’s participation of six Rib Masters will guarantee a wide variety of barbeque styles and flavors for everyone to sample throughout the four-day event.”

For four BIG days, barbecue fans will have an opportunity to sample wildly different versions of items they might have thought were always made the same. Featured will be the best ribs from six nationally renowned Rib Masters –Porky ‘N’ Beans, Skin and Bones, Texas Pit BBQ, Gator BBQ, Smokin’ T’s, and Good Smoke BBQ. Serving every day from 11:30am through 10:00pm (9:00pm on Sunday), the 2013 Festival will also feature a musical lineup that pays homage to the impact of blues on American music.

“The Blues are not only the most American of art forms, but the fundamental inspiration for some of the most important artists of our generation,” Artistic Director and Festival Producer Jeff Springut said. “Stylistically, this year’s lineup represents many of the various flavors of the Blues, from the Texas Blues, Soul and Gospel sounds of the Blues Broads to the funky bluesy rhythms of New Orleans‘ Walter Wolfman Washington to the Blue Eyed Soul of the Average White Band, we’ve put together a party that cooks as much as the BBQ on the grill!”

Lunchtime admission is free until 3:00 p.m. for all four days of the festival and only $5 after 3:00 p.m. All musical entertainment is FREE with your paid admission. More than 20 live-concerts will take over the RAM Trucks Main stage. Some of the featured bands include The Average White Band, Walter Wolfman Washington, The Blues Broads, Mac Arnold, Plat full O Blues, and many more.

Again this year, great food and music are combined as a way to give back to the community. The Festival has teamed up with the Rochester chapter of the Visiting Nurse Meals On Wheels and a portion of all V.I.P. and company picnic ticket sales will go directly to the Rochester program.

Hours for the Big Rib BBQ & Blues Fest are: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 11-13 from 11:30am to 10:00pm; Sunday, July 14 from 11:30am to 9:00pm.  Admission is FREE every day until 3:00pm and $5.00 per person after 3:00pm. Kids 12-and-under are always FREE.  The County Parks Department will, once again, offer on-site event parking (accessible from both Elmwood Avenue and South Avenue) for a $5.00 fee, with all proceeds to benefit the Highland Park Trust Fund.

Advance VIP tickets are on sale now at the House of Guitars, Record Archive and The Bop Shop, and online at www.RochesterEvents.com. V.I.P. tickets include all-you-can-eat buffet, up-close parking, festival admission and front-of-stage access. A portion of these ticket sales will go towards the Rochester Chapter of Visiting Nurse Meals On Wheels.
