Dinolfo Announces 22nd Annual Winterfest
Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo today announced that the County’s 22nd annual Winterfest will be hosted at Mendon Ponds Park on Sunday, January 15th, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The FREE event is open to the public.
“Here in Monroe County, we celebrate our seasons,”said Dinolfo. “Each January, the Mendon Ponds Winterfest brings thousands of residents together to enjoy all the park has to offer. Thank you to the dedicated staff and community organizations who work so hard to make this event an annual success.”
Jointly sponsored and coordinated by Dinolfo and the Monroe County Department of Parks, Winterfest has a rich history of being a great outdoor event for all audiences. Numerous community organizations and winter themed demonstrations are planned throughout the Park both outside and inside the Park’s heated lodges. The event has continued to grow over the years and offers many activities visitors have come to love, while highlighting new partners and local endeavors.
Winterfest will feature a variety of seasonal participatory activities, including sledding, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing, as well as demonstrations by local organizations and clubs. Popular spectator competitions include both sled dog and snowshoe races. Visitors may also enjoy crafts, face painting, chain saw carving demonstrations, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol. Mercy Flight Central also plans a helicopter flyover or landing in front of Stewart Lodge at approximately 2:00 p.m., schedule and weather permitting.
Refreshments will be available for sale at the Nature Center, Stewart Lodge and East/West Lodge.
Mendon Ponds Park is located in the southeastern portion of Monroe County just south of the Thruway. Visitors may enter the park from either Route 65 (Clover Street) or Pittsford-Mendon Center Road.
